2.0 out of 5 stars This isnt the real Open Hand
This cd is further proof that trustkill records truly does kill their bands such as Hopesfall,Poison the Well, and now Open Hand. Open Hand's first release "The Dream" was quite possably the greatest cd ever released. Open Hand was known for there powerfull drum beats, articulate riffs, and amazing vocals. Now they have a sub-standard drummer and guitar riffs that just...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Rock Record Of The Year (So Far), April 4, 2005
This review is from: You & Me (Audio CD)
I accidenatlly stumbled upon this album about a month ago online, and upon hearing the hook for "Tough Girl" I was instantly hooked. I ran out and bought it the next day and have listened to it nearly nonstop since. I'm simply amazed that this album has had no Marketing behind it whatsoever. This is the type of album that could potentially go gold or platinum if given the proper push. The songs are amazing, from the intricate guitar work, to the catchy rockin' hooks, great harmonies, and truly great vocals. It's very reminiscent of Queens Of The Stone Age, Failure, and Local H, but is also very uniquely Open Hand. The songs range from the anthemic punk of (Tough Girl, Tough Guy, Take No Action), to space rockers (You And Me, Kaleidescope), to hard edge metal rockers (Hard Night), even indie like (Her Song). This album has it all, and maintains to keep the same great feel throughout. It's just blows my mind that this band isn't just exploding all over the airwaves and into mainstream popularity. Get this band a new PR company and get them the attention they deserve! This album is just that damn good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than QOTSA!!, May 2, 2005

This review is from: You & Me (Audio CD)
I first heard Open Hand about 3 years ago when "The Dream" was released. I was shocked and confused that such an amazing band wasn't getting nearly the attention they so rightly deserved. I was hoping to one day get to listen to a new album of theirs. Then I found them on myspace and was happy to find that they were still together (although that can be argued considering they are minus the original drummer) and that they had a new album on the way. I got hold of an advance of the album and was simply blown away. They had evolved into something much bigger than "The Dream". Don't get me wrong, their first album is quite breathtaking, and they can still pull off the old songs live, but the new album was just something completely fresh. I was advised that the new album would put the new Queens of the Stone Age album to shame and was glad to find the rumors to be true. There is not a bad song on "You And Me". Everything is worth listening to, it screams repeat. I won't go into each song and describe why it works and why I find it so beautiful, just let it be known that this band has something great going for it and is worth the listen. Try it, be surprised, or don't. It's really up to you. Hope you enjoy. Happy listening.

This album really blew me away. I downloaded "Tough Girl" and couldn't get enough of it, so I purchased the album. The songs are well crafted, and catchy. The guitar work is impressive too, I love the tone, and they way the riffs flow. Overall a great rock album. Personal faves include "Waiting for Katy", "Tough Girl", and "Crooked Crown".

5.0 out of 5 stars In summation: Excellent., November 14, 2005
This review is from: You & Me (Audio CD)
The Dream was one of my favorite albums for a while. I'll never forget hearing that album all the way through for the first time and loving every moment. Later on, when I became a more discerning listener and realized it was imperfect I brought it down a couple of notches, and after that, when I learned what good instrumentation sounds like, I knocked it back up to where it was before.

Enter You and Me. It beats The Dream to a bloody pulp. It's simply an amazing album. Very few records impress me on the first listen, even some of my favorites. I have to say, however, that this is a noble exception. The guitars, especially, impressed me from the get go. Even when they seem more simplistic, a catchy pop goodness permeates the song and more than makes up for a lack of technical prowess. Justin's vocals are as clean and smooth as ever, sliding down your ears like cough syrup.

Every track is strong. My sole complaint is that I'm not much of a fan of female vocalists in rock music. I've just never been wowed. I suppose it's harder to identify. That said, these vocals are strong enough and do add a bit of flair, I even like them on Take No Action.

We've all heard it before, "but I like every song on this record." Personal favorites are Pure Concentrated Evil, You and Me, Newspeak, and Hard Night.

Buy It. If you are disappointed, it won't be the music's fault.

This is probably one of the best albums I've ever purchased! OpenHand's music sounds a lot like Queens of the Stone Age and Tool mixed with some tribal drum beats with an awesome hint of harmonizing. Give these guys an award for being such an "artistic" band who is not afraid of experimenting!

I got this CD like two weeks ago, Trustkill sent it out before the release date if you pre-order it. This CD has not left my player. It's like if Queens of the Stone Age, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane's Addiction and Failure having an orgy in the desert. I haven't heard of any of their music before this CD. If the first CD is anything like this...I'll be rockin' that one too.

This album rocks. Fantastic guitar riffs. If this disc had the right marketing, it would have exploded. I hope they continue the sound into the next album. Fine job Open Hand.

More people need to be introduced to this band. I feel this band will break out in a big way this year with this record.(and hopefully not sellout) the album has such an orginal and diverse sound. yet sounds like a mix of qotsa, failure, nirvana, even got a little tool vibe out of some of the riffs. some of the songs are very spacey and paint a wonderful atmospheric feeling. shouldnt be missed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait, February 25, 2005

Open Hand has not come out with new music, except a few demos in 5 years, since the release of the Evolutions EP. Well, it has been worth the wait. The music on this record is so rock and roll i cannot even begin to explain.
Few bands of today can write the guitar riff you will hear. The guitars have the cKy type of riffs and the drumming is very powerful and to the point. Justin's vocals swoon over the landscape in a captivating way.
Not one song sounds the same on here.
Some are very rock and roll, others are spacey, a few ballads are thrown in there.... all in all, its a great record.
Standout tracks: You and Me, Tough Guy, Hard Night, Crooked Crown, Trench Warfare to name a few.... but in all reality, they all stand out.
Go buy this record and bang your head upon arrival.
