A different kind of Marian McPartland recording,

This review is from: With You in Mind (Audio CD)
If you are a fan of Marian McPartland you know that most of her recordings are solo, or with a trio she has used for decades. Her arrangemnts often take one "out of the Box" for short periods of time, but never leave you there for long. Some may describe this album as to Commercial. The backup is a group including violins and has arrangements that are more standard than usual and not many times does she leave the script. On the other hand the music is relaxing and delightful and still has a lot of the spirit we expect from wonderful woman. I bought the album after hearing a couple of cuts because the music is great and it is different from the normal Marian McPartland experience.

I specifically paid for this entire cd b/c I could not find this version of "Fur Elise" anywhere else. It's the only track I've listened to off the cd, but man is it good! Beautiful, jazz adaptation of a classical piece.

Got no strings on me,
This review is from: With You in Mind (Audio CD)
This might better have been titled "The Columbia Studio Strings
with Marian McPartland." What an awful thing to do to a talented Jazz trio circa 1957. Why someone felt compelled to reissue this is beyond me.
