Book Description

“I would gladly trade places with Casper, given the chance. I lifted my head to see Casper’s best friend standing on the other side of the grave.”

Jordan is a golden child—wealthy, popular, the self-professed ruler of the senior class. Jordan is also a bully, a bully whose group of friends mercilessly tormented seventeen-year-old Casper for being different, for being poor, for suffering silently. Random acts of abuse from his classmates were par for the course in Casper’s life, until one night, the bullying evolved into a hate crime and he, unable to endure, longing for peace, finally took his own life.

You Never Cared is the heartbreaking tale, told in Jordan’s words, of a life stolen, of love lost, and of a soul compromised. But ultimately, it is a story of forgiveness and redemption. As Sammy, Casper’s friend and lover, attempts to cope with the anguish of his boyfriend’s loss, Jordan attempts to own his part in the crime, trying to make amends but knowing his only hope is to carry on Casper’s legacy, to work to build a better future for boys and girls who, like Casper, just need a strong voice to encourage and stand up for them.

From Cajun Girl In Phoenix ::: This book is a definite must read.I have never read a story or heard of a story written about the other point of view & this story is very informative reading. It does show the point of the other side & it does get the point across that people should not be persecuted for being different whether Gay or Straight, race, religion or anything else.People should have the right to be themselves & not have to worry about being picked on,teased,or bullied. I loved this story,Casper was such a sweet soul,& Sammy, his defender felt he didn't do enough to help him.I'll be honest, this story made me cry,but when you read it & find that someone who bullied him actually felt guilt & remorse over what happened to Casper. I honestly want people to read this book & think about how it would feel if this happened to them.Being wealthy or poor should have no classification as to who is better than the other one-people should all be treated equal.Jordan had to learn to live what he & his friends had done,& this story reflects that even a bully can change and learn to treat people with respect, help them if they can,and hopefully teach teens & such that bullying is not O.K.~ My very favorite part of this book is that Jordan had to accept his role in what happened & had to forgive himself so he could move on with his life & help others.(I'm giving away no spoilers,it's a truly wonderful story & just might clue people in as to what goes on around them, whether it be parents or friends to look for signs in friends/children that is not normal behavior)

4.0 out of 5 stars Hits close to home June 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
As someone that was bullied and had quite a few low points in high school this story really hit home for me. This is the first book of Michele's that I've read and it certainly won't be the last. I love the writing style, how the narrator's voice flows with a rhythm all it's own. I'm serious, read some of the passages aloud where he's thinking. Each character that I met in the story came across as genuine and unique. I cried a lot while reading this book and I cheered when Sammy raged at the boy that had tormented them. The epilogue was a nice finishing touch to wrap everything up. The only reason I rated this story as a 4 was that, because of the story's length, some of the details seemed rushed and some of the parts appeared abrupt. Not in a major way and not in a way that took anything from the story, but it would be really nice to see a much longer re-writing of this story at some point soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gay Basher POV July 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book really makes you think and feel.
From the POV of the baser, the results of his and friends actions is not something I will soon forget.

Sad to say gay people are still fighting for equal rights---just to be who they are and want to become in life.
I have read other Montgomery books and will continue to read all she has published.
You can understand and feel the angst of her characters that she develops so completely and with understanding.
Can not get enough of her writing and all the characters' stories yet to come.
Thank you Michele and keep up the heartfelt work!

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh... February 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is by far not the worst thing I've read on my kindle, but it isn't the best either. While premise is a good one, the story is too short for any development. You don't really get to know the characters and the epilogue at the end seems tacked on. Not reccomended.
