Unique. And beautiful.,
By
This review is from: You & The Now (Audio CD)
I know Jorane since a long time, I bought every single albums she made so far (I'm from Quebec), because you never know what the next song, the next mood will be; this album is up to her reputation: creative, outstanding, unique. You have everything: her famous non-lyrical songs, sad and touching Red Mountains, even an "I Feel Love" remix! Every tracks is worth hearing. This is a must, for those of you who want something different.

Simply Stunning,

This album was a blind buy for me: I'd never heard of Jorane prior to seeing her cd advertised as part of a 6 Degrees promotion. It's been two days and I can not stop listening. This music is contemplative, mature, and decadent. The attention Jorane gives to her instrument is nothing short than the love DuPre lavished upon her own cello. A resounding "hurrah" for brave, innovative music which challenges musical expectations without audacity. The composition, "Film III" is beautiful. Put it on, turn up the volume, and let everything else get quiet.

This review is from: You & the Now (Audio CD)
The You and the Now has been released in different versions in Canada, France, Germany, and a few months later in the USA. The French 2-CD version includes the EP Évapore and two bonus tracks. Complete track listings are at jorane.com; as of this writing, amazon is somewhat confused.

An Original, Pure And Simple,

Jorane's album is original, inspirational and lovely. The vocals are beautiful while the lyrics are slightly loopy and poetic at the same time. The version of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' is a wholly new imagining of the song and quite possibly the highlight of this recommended work. Perfect for a rainy afternoon.

A different slant on strings,

I can't review this objectively as I recorded the Turtle Island String Quartet for this album and worked closely with producer Michael Brook which was a joy. Jorane is very talented and has a different slant on the world in a good way.Want something different to spark your mood, this is it.

Not just another Tori Amos.,
By Yury Shumilov (Edmonton, Alberta Canada) - See all my reviews

She may seem like Tori Amos in this work, but she's (also) so much more. A virtuosic "raphaelite" beyond the scope of Tori Amos, and not just on the periphery of the grunge-alternative-contemporary scene anymore. You go Jorane and Sarah Slean! Please replace the likes of Sarah McLachlan and Chantal Kreviazuk who have sold out 50-75%.
