5.0 out of 5 stars Very witty book, January 3, 2011

I received this as a gift, and it was the hit of the party! The book was passed around and everyone seemed to have a favorite piece of "wisdom" that they related to, and there were lots of laughs. The front cover picture doesn't do a great job of telegraphing the cleverness of the content.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Surprise!, May 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: You Oughta Know By Now (Hardcover)
This is NOT a children's book! It IS, however, a delightful surprise to this reader! I'd heard Brian P. Cleary giving a keynote address at a literacy conference, so I knew that he had a fully "grown-up" sense of humor, but I did not know he had written a book for grown-ups! It is 100 funny bits of wisdom such as: "There's no such thing as free kittens," and "When a kid says, 'smell my hand' it almost never smells like cinnamon." Some are serious, but wonderfully insightful, others are just downright funny. I'd been a fan of his children's books for years, so I bought this thinking it was a children's book. It's not, but it IS a funny collection of everyday pearls of wisdom.
