Book Description

February 2, 2000
You already own the power to give healing, to tap your creativity, to become more intuitive. Have you longed to communicate with your loved ones who have passed over into the spirit world? You were born with the power -- it's your birthright. But how do you access it?

Now Rosemary Altea shows you how. In her first work of self-help, the New York Times -- bestselling author of The Eagle and the Rose and Proud Spirit offers tested and proven exercises that focus on relaxation, visualization, and positive thinking as well as savoring our senses, developing intuition, and becoming aware of energy.

Woven in with this rich "how-to" tapestry are miraculous stories of the spirit world: the time Rosemary spoke to one of the victims of TWA Flight 800; her chilling conversation with two brothers who died in a Nazi concentration camp; and much more.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

In You Own the Power, psychic medium Rosemary Altea departs from her usual autobiographical format to write a self-help book for those who wish to develop their sixth sense. Filled with riveting true-life ghost stories, You Own the Power takes the reader step by step through lessons and exercises Altea developed in 20 years of teaching students how to get in touch with the spirit world. Readers are taught relaxation, meditation, and visualization techniques; methods for producing positive thought processes; how to generate energy through color meditations; and even how to heighten the five common senses. The course ultimately leads to developing an intimate relationship with oneself, to hearing the heartbeat of the soul, to "owning" one's power. The apparent point of the practice (and it does take practice) is that if you can't sense your own soul, how can you expect to perceive the soul of someone who has passed to another realm? This is a course for beginners, though anyone can benefit from Altea's loving insights. --P. Randall Cohan

From Publishers Weekly

The popularity of charismatic healer and spiritual medium Altea, who wrote the bestsellers The Eagle and the Rose and Proud Spirit, rests on her comforting vision of death and afterlife and her empathy for the sick and bereaved. With help from her spirit guide, a part-Native American named Grey Eagle, Altea claims to have made contact with countless spirits of the deceased and transmitted their loving messages to those who have survived them. Promising no miracles, this time around she advises readers to develop their own connections with the spirit world (i.e., their sixth sense) by honing the other five senses and developing self-knowledge. In addition to meditation and relaxation techniques, she offers exercises based on imaginative forms of positive thinking, such as building and decorating a metaphorical home. Many readers will be fascinated by her tales of communion with the spirit world (whether they believe them or not), although she often refers to or repeats stories from previous books. One anecdote that's likely to garner attention is her claim of contact with a victim of the TWA Flight 800 plane crash. However, skeptical readers may find it inappropriate that this messenger of God's love uses her book to settle scores with her former husband and Italian Catholic priests, and to plug her other products. 4.0 out of 5 stars Kept me reading!, May 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: You Own the Power: Stories And Exercises To Inspire And Unleash The Force Within (Hardcover)
After reading the reviews here on Amazon, I almost didn't purchase this book. However, I couldn't stop thinking about it and decided I would buy it anyway. I sure am glad I did! The book was inspiring, interesting, intriguing and well-thought out. I have not read any other books by Rosemary Altea, but after seeing her interview on "Larry King Live" I was interested in the topic. I felt that her personal stories added a lot to the book and kept it moving forward. I appreciate her honesty in saying that taking control of your openness to the spiritual world (i.e., through her excercises) can take a long time to develop. I think a lot of people hope to read a book like this and instantly be able to communicate with the spirit world - but she sets your expectations correctly. Anyone looking for guidance and a clearer understanding of what it is like to communicate with the spirit world, should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Connected Forever, March 18, 2000
This review is from: You Own the Power: Stories And Exercises To Inspire And Unleash The Force Within (Hardcover)
The whole point is missed when one worries about superb editing. It's the spirit of this piece of work that we must address with open minds. Steinbeck's works were notorious in their need of massive editorial work, but the spirit of his work certainly moved the world. Rosemary is a gift....a rare gift. She came to offer us ways of peace in this tumultuous life. She is not a grammarian or a historian or a biblical scholar. She is a nice person with a special gift from God. Through her books, a gateway was opened for me. It is not a floodgate as she encounters, but it has been a wonderful experience. In meditation, a late grandfather showed me the two homes he was building. Why, I ask him? He told me his sons (my uncles) were coming home. The family laughed, but they decided it was time for a big family reunion. Wonderful hugs and conversations and love renewed among all. 2 months later the older uncle died during a routine angioplasty. 3 months later the younger uncle climbed off the roof he was cleaning, eased himself into a patio chair and drifted off peacefully into eternity. I doubt the visit with my grandfather would have ever happened if Rosemary had not prepared me through her writings. Can we learn to ignore the tree stumps and experience the magnificent forest before us?

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for anyone interested in the spirit, April 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: You Own the Power: Stories And Exercises To Inspire And Unleash The Force Within (Hardcover)
This is the third Altea book I've read, and it differs from the others, because it provides specific, actionable steps to take to tune in to one's own power. The exercises are deceptive-they seem to simple and basic, yet I have discovered that that's the POINT! Do them, do them, do them -- repeat them, repeat them, repeat them. They work. They make a difference. This isn't a book intended simply as a good read -- for that, go back to her two earlier books, the wonderful Eagle and the Rose and the second book, Proud Spirit. I just bought her tape on healing from amazon, and it's excellent -- simply as a relaxation tool if nothing else. So many of these products and authors disapoint, but Rosemary Altea is REAL.
