Perfect for Halloween, the stories all revolve around monsters, goblins, zombies, and ghouls. The selections are short, each running across a spread, and "voices" are color-coded and carefully positioned on the page so readers know when it's their turn. Despite its title, the book is hardly engineered to keep any child awake at night. Emberley's illustrations depict friendly fiends with lopsided smiles and silly features, and the fear/gross-out factors in the text are almost nonexistent. My daughter can't get enough of this book. She loves the silliness of the stories and gets to listen to my silly voices for the characters. I'll be looking for more like this. She even reads it to her little cousin.

This is the fourth of the "You Read to Me, I'll Read to You" books that I have bought and it is my favorite so far. I got one to have at my house to read to my grandchildren and liked it so much I ordered copies for each of the families. The stories are very short and a lot of fun to read. It's a good book for year round but will be especially good for Halloween.
