About the Author

Sascha was born in Bremen, Germany (of Bremen Town musicians' fame). She emigrated to the United States in 1947 and studied literature and history at the Universities of Colorado (B.A.) and Denver (M.A.).Sascha's daughter Eve was born in November 1950; her son Nino arrived in October 1953. Nino drowned three and a half years later, and on the 15th anniversary of his death, Eve died of suicide.After spending some thirty years in various areas of mental health work, Sascha initiated a professional support service for persons with panic disorders and/or agoraphobia. For the last 16 years, she has been providing bereavement care and grief support, often by telephone. She has provided workshops in Germany, in Canada, and at IN LOVING MEMORY conferences, as well as speaking to Compassionate Friends groups and conference audiences. In 1998, Sascha was honored with the award for TCF Professional of the Year. After several years as editor of The Compassionate Friends' Central Iowa Chapter, Sascha started the quarterly publication of L.A.R.G.O. (Life After Repeated Grief: Options) which has a farflung readership in the USA, Canada, Germany, South Africa and Australia.Other than three smaller volumes of writing, Sascha has published "The Sorrow And The Light" (1992) and "Wintersun" (1996).Sascha now lives in retirement near Denver, Colorado under the careful supervision of the feline pundits Puczicam and Susie Q. (and an occasional stray), who help to find all the papers, keys, glasses, hearing aids and garage door openers Sascha regularly misplaces.

It is not often that a book comes along that can give bereaved parents both hope and understanding. This is exactly what For You From Sascha, a new collection of poetry by Sascha Wagner, does so beautifully. Sascha's poems have been a soothing balm for bereaved parents for years, so it was with excitement and delight that I found her latest book containing all of my old favorites, and wonderful new poems as well. For You From Sascha will be especially meaningful for the newly bereaved, those just beginning their journey through grief, but it also gives hope to those farther along who find themselves in the muck and mire of the also difficult later grieving stages. This is a book to read and reread, enabling the reader to find solace, light, and love from Sascha, even in the darkest hours.

Sascha is a veteran on this rough journey of grief, her heart broken twice by the death of two children and yet even in her pain, she has done the remarkable---put together a gift to us, a book of verses that enter hearts and brings comfort. In this book through her words she has taught me, "Grief is the ceremony of lost treasure....grief is not an enemy." FOR YOU FROM SASCHA is a friend for the bereaved parent.

In this book, Sascha Wagner tells us through her unique style the way to find light at the end of the tunnel in grieving. But not only that, she shows us how she herself lost both of her children, and not only survived, but was able to recall with joy again those special events that we all share with our children.

Sascha left us in 2005, and I know, as she believed , that she is once again reunited with her Eve and little Nino.
