4.0 out of 5 stars Live and Learn!!! (3.5 Stars), September 3, 2010
This review is from: You Showed Me (Paperback)
Naheema Morgan is the classic good girl she has a college degree, stable job with the city of NY, her own apartment and the added benefit of no kids. The only thing Naheema is missing is a good man in her life and that's what she thought she found when she met Mike Williams. Mike was looking for a good girl and Naheema definitely fit the profile however his reasons weren't as noble. Mike was running a lucrative drug empire all while utilizing a unisex salon as a front for his illegal dealings. Tired of all the manipulative women looking at him as the ultimate come-up Mike selected Naheema because she was established, sexy and most of all clueless to his street dealings.

Mike easily woos Naheema into a hustler's wife before she even figures out that he's immersed in the game. Naheema knew that Mike's opulent lifestyle couldn't be attributed to just owning a barbershop/salon but his charm and lavish gifts caused her to overlook the obvious. But once Mike's empire begins to crack his true personality is revealed and Naheema's knight and shining armor quickly transforms into a abusive dictator. Just how much physical abuse and infidelity can Naheema withstand before ending the relationship? Will it be soon enough to avoid being charged as an unknowing accomplice in Mike's pending investigation?

With You Showed Me author Nahisha McCoy delivers an enjoyable read that has the power to educate young readers all while entertaining them. They can learn right along with the main character that ignorance does not always save you from culpability in the eyes of the law.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't ask no questions and I won't tell no lies..., December 20, 2010
This review is from: You Showed Me (Paperback)
A seemingly harmless day of shopping turns out to be a pivotal point in Naheema Morgan's life as her embarrassing mishap gives Mike Williams an invitation into her life. Naheema has finished college and secured a decent job with the NYC Housing Authority. Mike Williams is a charming, good looking, financially secure businessman that masterminds a game plan to make Naheema his wifey. The relationship blossoms at a slow but steady pace, although Mike harbors many secrets that he has no plans on divulging to Naheema. Randy Simms is Mike's right hand man, and he knows all the intimate secrets of Mike's illegal operations.

You Showed Me is a tale of a naïve, idealistic young lady that finds herself in the very type of relationship that she has always sworn she'd never accept. This novel depicts the unpredictability of life and the cause and effect equation that is possible when an individual finds themselves involved with deceitful people. What starts off as a simple read soon develops into a maze of deception. When jealousy rears its hideous head, will this betrayal be reparable? Lives will be jeopardized as a snitch surfaces in the midst of the mayhem. Will the innocent have to suffer for the guilty? Is love truly worth all the pain, sorrow and humiliation that it's causing? Physical abuse, criminal activity, murder, police coercion, sexual promiscuity, betrayals, and misplaced love are the things and emotions that will captivate the reader as each suspenseful layer is revealed. This is my first Nahisha McCoy read and I think she did a commendable job. I will definitely be on the lookout for future projects.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired, November 28, 2010
This review is from: You Showed Me (Paperback)
Naheema is young, free and independent, making things happen for her. The one thing that would make her life complete is her prince charming. She meets smooth operator Mike Williams; the tall dark and handsome Casanova has Naheema mesmerized. In turn, he is infatuated with her swag and independence. The wining and dining begins, both fall head over heels for each other. As the dating progresses and turns into a full blown relationship, Naheema notices the changes that are taking place in Mike. He says one thing and the story turns out to be the total opposite. It's starting to be too much to handle for Naheema and taking its toll on her mentally and physically. Will Naheema be able to get back to that place of peace?

"You Showed Me" was drama filled to say the very least. Plenty of action, that had me saying could this really happen, can people be so naïve to what is going on around them. I enjoyed this book; it shows through the heartache, pain and sadness that we as women are strong and can triumph through anything.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Much..., October 24, 2010
This review is from: You Showed Me (Paperback)
YOU SHOWED ME by Nahisha McCoy is a story of Naheema Morgan, a woman who has her fair share of relationships gone awry. A year after graduating high school she was hired to work for the New York City Housing Authority. At the age of 26, Naheema is single with no children, has her own apartment in the projects and still riding the bus back and forth to work.

When she meets Mike 'aka' Mad Mike, Naheema is none the wiser that he is a drug dealer...all she knows is that he is the owner of a barbershop and that he keeps odd hours. Little does Mike know there is an undercover cop within his organization that is on a personal vendetta to bring him down.

YOU SHOWED ME by Nahisha McCoy was difficult for me to read. There were too many unneccessary sex scenes that were more like filler pages. The writing was too descriptive, meaning details were included that were irrelevant to the story and made it a very slow moving read. A lot of things just did not make sense...such as how Mike lived in a condo but yet had clothes over at Naheema's apartment. If Mike is a big time drug dealer, why stay with her in the projects?...why did he have her riding the bus, if that is his woman, then why not buy her a car? There were too many unbelievable situations and there was just too much going on. My suggestion would be that the author invest in a good developmental editor; it could surely turn this story around to make it flow smoother.

3.0 out of 5 stars There are none so blind as those that will not see..., September 12, 2010
This review is from: You Showed Me (Paperback)
Naheema Morgan is I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T. With both beauty and brains, she is doing well for herself. The loving of a good man would just be icing on the cake. That sweet, rich icing appears in the form of the sinfully good looking Mike Williams, a barbershop owner. With chemistry and romance in full swing, the two begin a relationship. Naheema couldn't be happier. But if it's too good to be true, it probably is as Naheema quickly finds out that there is a deeper, darker side to Mike. Drugs, violence, other women and trouble with the law, will Naheema be strong enough to survive?

While it was a cautionary tale with a noble premise, YOU SHOWED ME overshot its mark. There was simply too much going on and it got in the way of the root story. And too much eventually turned into unbelievable. There were countless, and might I add, unnecessary sex scenes. It got to the point that I starting skimming past the sex (and that's so NOT me!). I didn't buy into the character Mike. Now I don't know this author and what she has or hasn't been into, but from the standpoint of Mike as a man and as a dealer, it read like a person writing about something they didn't know. I don't know what kind of drug dealing organization he was running. Give me something I can believe, and I didn't believe him or his status. (*spoiler* What dealer keeps notes? Where they do that at? He might as well have given receipts with each drug transaction. *spoiler*)

I would have preferred if the author had taken the less is more route. Naheema could have been aware of the fact that he was a dealer and dealt with all the consequence of that lifestyle, including the abuse OR she could have not been aware minus all the extra drama and abuse. Either situation is more than enough for a story with an underlying message of triumph and the need for self love. But together, it was all too much, going from one extreme to the next. And somewhere, buried under all of that, is the point readers, especially young female readers, should gleam from the book.

And that brings me to my final rating of 2.75. It's not a 3-star read (okay) because there were too many issues that if corrected could have made for a better read. But it's not a 2-star read (didn't like it) either because it did have its moments and the potential is there.

This story was VERY long winded and should have ended a long time ago.I felt as though it was filled with so many unnecessary details and scenarios which made certain things seem very far fetched. The ending was summed up very quickly even though the story was dragged out. The only character that had some common sense was Dina. This was an ok story that needed a bit more polishing before it was released.

This review is from: You Showed Me (Paperback)
Independent Naheema Morgan is a single childless young woman that is taking her time looking for love...she thinks she has found just that after she meets and falls for Mike Williams. All the signs of him not being who he say he is are there but Naheema pushes them to the side.

Mike goes from the perfect lover to the boyfriend from hell.Naive could be what you'd considered Naheema but I feel she chose to be in the situation she got herself into...Some could say love kept her there...some could say dyck kept her there...who knows?

There are so many Naheema'a in America's jails today that it ain't even funny...there are women who like Naheema figure out that they are dealing with a dangerous man and they stay...it could be for the dyck, the love, the lifestyle or just plain naivete.Read Naheema's story and you decide.

Greetings to all, and any.
I must say that this is one of the worst books I have ever read.At the beginning it was ok, the person who wrote this book, needed to have it edited, she used the word SHE so much in the first chapters. Then going into the book, it turned to pure trash, way , way to much low down dirty sex. To think this person gave shout outs to family members, wow, she dropped all pride and prestige to write this.
WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
