Pleasant music to chill out,
By Bob (Madrid, SPAIN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You Stand Watching (Audio CD)
I don't care if many think this music was made just for selling or if most 15 year old girls are mad about Ryan Cabrera, I think we wouldn't be fair if we criticied his work just for that. I bought this record because I loved "true" and "on the way down" from his previous album, and actually I don't regret it at all. Overall it's a serious record with no bad songs, maybe too mellow, but enjoyable after all.
1-ºFrom the start (3/5) 2- Hit me with your light (5/5) awesome beat. Should have been his second single 3- Shine on (4.5/5) First single. Catchy but overplayed 4- find your way (4/5) 5- Photo (4.5/5) Second single. Nice, but doesn't reach track #2 6- Our Story (3/5) 7- Fall baby fall (4.5/5) Sweet 8- Last night (5/5) Impressive upbeat. Cool guitar riff 9- Walking on water (2.5/5) weakest 10- With you gone (4.5/5) Getting better 11- It's you (5/5) Ending with his best written song. Slow, beautiful...This is a certain future single. Leaves a great taste

Suprisingly MUCH better!,

Thank you Ryan Cabrera! After listening to his first Cd which was really good, i didn't think his next one would be any better, BUT I underestimated him. Ryan brings out a lot of his style in the CD...the last one all seemed to be one way, with little variety and you couldn't tell some songs apart. But it was still good. This CD brings out so many different types of styles and he uses more vocal expresssion. Luv it. even though every song is about like one girl, it's definitely worth buying. Especially if your a romantic girl that likes to drive through the country listening to music...this is the perfect CD for a roadtrip with your girlfriends!
Shine On...beautiful song to wakeup to Our Story...i love the style of the chorus...it's so catchy Find Your Way..the music is lovely. it's very comforting Fall Baby Fall...probably the 2nd best song on the CD, it's sooooo sweet and it definitely builds up Walking On Water..makes you feel really good It's You..the BEST song, the lyrics are sweet and music is great..just an all around good song All the songs are great..bottom line, this Cd is very comforting and can change any down mood or elevate in high one.

Such a pleasant surprise,

Normally, I don't buy music from men. I have no idea why -- it is some brain process that I have yet to get out of my head. However, I felt tempted to buy Ryan Cabrera's album. Several reasons for this, actually. One being that one of my close friends raved about it when she bought it, and played it over and over (I never got the chance to hear it, as it was on an mp3 player, and I have yet to ask her to let me listen in on a song yet; I don't like sharing ear buds, as I'm just weird that way). I also saw several advertisements through stores, and, naturally, I got interested. So I forked over the money and bought it.
One of the best decisions I have ever made! He has a soft voice, and most of his songs reflect that -- one being Walking On Water -- and others just give him a slightly harder edge, such as Hit Me With Your Light. It's very hard to escape the short breaths he takes in between lines, but that's almost noexistant. It doesn't take away from the overall sound of the songs, which are quite well written and sound pretty nice as well. A few, like Photo, Fall Baby Fall, and It's You, are a nice listen for a few times, but the ones with excellent replay value (Hit Me With Your Light, Last Night, and Walking on Water) shall be played until the battery dies. No problems, though! This is what plug in cd players are for. Overall, very good, and a pleasant surprise! I'm currently deliberating over purchasing his first album; however, I'm very happy with what I've got right now. Nice ecletic mix in there -- an absolute joy to listen to!

A Great Follow-Up,
By twocents "twocents" (Connecticut) - See all my reviews

I'm actually quite impressed with Ryan's capacity to record, write, and produce an album on his own, especially after working with THE MAN of goo-goo dolls for the previus one. Hm, pretty damn good. I like this CD, and I was especially impressed by the sound of each song--very different from the previous CD. I actually will go as far as to say that this album may even be a little better than the last. Yep, I SAID IT. I like "Hit Me With Your Light" and "Fall Baby Fall" because they remind me of some of my favorites off the other album, only they're more edgy and more Ryan Cabrera. Go out and buy this album; you're sure to enjoy it.

Wow..,
By WD "Buzzworthy" (Oklahoma) - See all my reviews

I actually purchased "You Stand Watching" the day it came out. I wanted to make sure I heard the album through before I gave it my honest opinion. This CD seemed absolutely solid time and again. This young man has such a great voice and open personality he just has to succeed. You can tell he worked on his voice and has matured as a singer/songwriter all around(Compare this album to Take it All Away/unreleased Elm Street). But on to this CD. This Cd isn't as..poppy as the previous, it is a more serious, broken hearted softcore album. But the incorporation of the piano more on this Cd is what made me love more of the songs.
It starts off with a bang, From the Start is just that, a beautiful track that begs you to trust he was there from the start. The second track and quite possibly my top pick on the CD is Hit Me with Your Light. I believe this could possibly be a faith based song but you can just feel the emotion in his voice, almost moving. The third track is his first single off the album, Shine On. This song is extremely catchy and will soon be well known just as On the Way Down was from his previous. Another sympathetic yet optimistic song. Find Your Way is just a beautiful song. The words get me everytime. As much as we can say this Album is full of sappy and sad lyrics, we all know we can relate and Ryan does a great job of transforming feeling and emotions into music. The song however can get quite repetitive. Photo has a great chorus, more of an upbeat song at times, I do think the creativity of the chorus is what keeps you coming back for more. "maybe someday you and me will have, one more shot" Our Story was never my first listen on the album, but afetr a while it really grew on me. The latin tempo and theme it has is amazing and turns into another strong strong chorus. This is probably my second favorite on the album. The next two songs are possibly where there could be a weak point, if you even want to say that. Im not taking anything away from Fall Baby fall and Last Night but they are just more of filler songs, both great songs but not as catchy as the others I feel. With you gone follows this trend. The way this song is sung makes it somewhat unnatractive to some people, he seems to start and stop and not get anything going. Walking on Water and It's You are a great way to help end this within the last 3 tracks. Walking on Water is really growing on me it sounds so pure when it plays, and Ryans voice is what does it in this song. It's You is a very sentimental love song and at times a reminder to that one he loves that he really does love her. "When im sitting all alone in my room. everything reminds me of you." All in all, I could not find any other rating to give this album other than a 5 star rating; because if I could give it a 10 I would. Sometimes i catch myself using the same words over and over to describe it, but i think one word does. If you enjoyed Take it all Away you will most definately love this cd. Well worth every penny! FYI: I purchased the Cd from Wal-mart and got a bonus disc for the same price. These songs on the bonus disc are actually quite good. "I know what it feels like", and "all night train" seem to be new acoustic tunes, which are both incredibly solid. It also includes 3 acoustic versions of songs from "Take it All Way":Take it all away, Exit to Exit, and Shame on Me.

Having heard the single Shine Down and liking it, I bought the cd expecting a good cd, with a couple bad songs. I got a nice suprise to find that pretty much every song on here is good. The first song "From the start" is a great way to kick off the album with a really good beat for the verses, and the chorus is kind of dream like and smooth. I really love track 2, this song will give you chills down your spine. I would definatly recommend this cd, don't hesitate to purchase.

Bubblegum Pop with a Touch of Guitar,
By Kool Fool (Umpteenth) - See all my reviews

Listening to him reminds me of BBMak or Jesse McCartney, and I'll admit it: I'm actually a sucker for this genre. I'm not a fan of love songs, and I do agree that artists that do this kind of music usually need to work on their lyrics and not sounding the same for the entire album, but still, I like the fact that they are tame, not trying to be controversial, and are quite devoted to "you."
The only problem I have with Ryan Cabrera is the way he sings. He keeps exaggerating his breath-taking moment at the end of each sentence under the misguided mindset that it makes him sound sexier. Any attempt to sound sexier--especially when it fails--really bugs me. Irrelevantly-speaking, yeah, sure, I guess he's a hot guy material, but he really needs to do something about his hair. Hedgehog style is not cool.

I Liked This Album "From The Start",
This review is from: You Stand Watching (Audio CD)
1.From The Start-3:05-10/10: Great album opener. I like the way he sings the lyrics and the music in the chorus is not loud, but not soft. "I'll let you love me like I was in your heart/Just trust like I was there from the start".
2. Hit Me With Your Light-3:03-1000000/10: This is my favorite song on the album, though it's the shortest. It has a great upbeat rock chorus and the lyrics in the whole song are well written. This song is one of the best he's ever done. "Hit me with your light/Will you catch me if I fall/I would give my life/If it meant anything at all/Lord, help me carry on/Will you be there when/I'm gone". 3. Shine On-3:05-15/10: This is the first single off the album and it is an up-beat track where he is telling his girlfriend that if they can or can't be friends when they break up, she will still shine on. "Shine On/You were made to/Shine On/Cause you know I love you". 4. Find Your Own Way-3:23-9/10: This song moves toward a slow song, but dosn't really fall into the catagory. But the lyrics are great and i like the guitar in this song. "Tell me you'll stay/I never wanted us to break/You'll find your way..." 5. Photo-3:36-10000/10: My second favorite song. The first time I listened to this song, I liked it. Whats more, I can relate to what the song talks about. He is talking about a girl that left him and wishes they had one more shot at a relationship. I like the violins in this song. The verses are sung well. "A photo/Can say a thousand things/ But they can't say the million things/I want to say..." 6. Our Story-3:32-15/10: Latin influenced. I like the guitars in the song.I like the verses and I like the ending when the guitars fade out. Great song overall. "This time i'll/Think of brighter days/Where i'm falling deep/Deep into our story..." 7. Fall Baby Fall-3:19-9/10: No he is not telling his girlfriend to fall down. He is referring to her tears. It is a great power ballad that becomes loud in the chorus. "Let 'em fall baby fall/Just like the rain washes it all..." 8. Last Night-3:19-15/10: I like the opening guitars and the way the verses are sung. He talks about how he wants to know he lived his life well and other good things when he dies and he says that last night was the last time he shut his eyes. "Last night's the last time/I'll run and hide/I wanna believe I lived my life on fire/When I go/I just want you to know". 9. Walking On Water-3:39-9/10: This is another nice ballad. It's soft in the verses and soft in the chorus. It's a nice slow song that you can just picture being played at a school dance with everyone slow dancing. "Look at you now/Holding on by yourself/Baby don't doubt/You're walking on water..." 10. With You Gone-4:02-1000/10: My third favorite off the album. It is an upbeat song that sounds like it could have been the last song on the album. In the song, he sings about a girlfriend he lost and he can't get over the fact that she's gone. "With you gone/It plays on/It's so hard to move on/I want to/But I wanted you/Now you stay in my head/I'm not over you yet/I try to/But I wanted you". 11. It's You-3:45-10/10: The ballad of the album. Just Ryan, a piano, and a violin. My favorite lyric is "And though I/Made it myself/You stand watching/As my life/Passes me by". It is a great way to end the album. "Baby, It's you/When I look up in the sky I see you..." I got the cd from wal-mart and it came with a bonus disc. 1. I Know What It Feels Like-3:48-10/10: A great ballad with a great chorus. It starts off with a piano, but then builds with a violin and becomes a really nice song. "I know what it feels like/And i remember/It's only gonna get better..." 2. All Night Train-3:32-10/10: This is a mid-tempo song that has a great acoustic guitar. I like the western beat that is added at points in the song. A great song. "Girl, you keep me rolling on /Like an all night train..." 3. Take It All Away (Acoustic Version)-4:23-9/10 4. Exit To Exit (Acoustic Version)-3:35-10/10 5. Shame On Me (Acoustic Version)-3:43-10/10 All the acoustic songs are good. "Take It All Away" is okay, but I like the other 2 songs. They are 2 of my favorites off of his first album. This cd has alot of great songs overall. Don't hesitate to buy this album. Your money will not go to waste.
