From the Author

I am delighted to share this new work with you....  No longer must you slice, freeze, and later toast or microwave your breads!  In addition to fun recipes to expand your daily diet, the breads are amazing... If we had known these food theories years ago, no one would fear "having to eat" gluten-free!

You Still Won't Believe It's Gluten Free is a basic collection of GF recipes that include breakfast staples, desserts, vegetables, appetizers, and more. They are comfort food basics with some dressed up options, but all of them are tasty.
With Black Bean and Fresh Corn Salsa, Plantain Fries, Fruitinis, Refrigerator Oatmeal and Grits for Breakfast, you will be able to offer delicious appetizers and tempting breakfast options. Hearty Miso Soup, Macaroni Salad, Oven French Fries, Peanut-Sauced Noodles, Sweet Potato Fries with Maple Dipping Sauce, and Peanut Slaw are delicious mains and sides that even non-GF friends will love. Vegetarian Chili, Tempura Vegetables, Carrot Cake, Eggnog Pound Cake, White Chocolate Macadamia Bars are some of the best recipes in the book - really tasty!
Ryberg takes the time to explain the gluten-free cooking and baking options which is really helpful. Unfortunately, she doesn't have as many images in the book as I would have hoped for, so I can't really know what to expect (or be tempted by delicious photographs), and there are some duplicate recipes (for example, grits appeared multiple times in various forms). While there is repetition and some of the recipes aren't exactly original, there are enough GF options to keep you busy for a while.

Recipes are easy and most important... GOOD!!!! Some recipes have multiple ways to fix (with different types is flour bases) which is good for using flours on hand instead of running to the store. The first book is also really good

You are right, as a person with no gluten intolerance I didn't believe it (the title, that is). The recipes didn't look "special" or "strange" or any other negative epithet. Whether that is due to the book's brilliance, the reviewer's ignorance or a bit of both remains to be determined.

Here is a book with two hundred family-friendly recipes that are suitable for those with a gluten intolerance, so they are "gluten-Free". Things start with a very brief look at gluten-free cookery - and here the brevity doesn't feel an oversight when you consider the nature of the book and its target audience - and then it is just recipe after recipe after recipe.

Recipes are split into key meal-type or ingredient-type chapters, clearly navigable through the contents list at the front or a very detailed index at the rear. This is clearly "just" a recipe book, nothing more but nothing less. Yet it seems to achieve its goal well and without any problems. The recipes are a little terse and to-the-point but there is similarly no fussiness or "inspirational quotations" to help you "cope with your allergy" that other books tend to have which just seem to be patronising and in the way. So despite liking the book for its straight-to-the-point approach there are a fair few niggles. The use of sole U.S. imperial measures (using a lookup table is no solution), the lack of a clear approximation of preparation and cooking times and a total lack of photographs to help draw you in. The latter seems to be a particularly strange oversight in today's ultra-competitive book market, making this book seem a throwback to the 1970s.

I love Robyn's books. I had to find her publisher to get "The Gluten Free Kitchen". The book was out of print and I begged the publisher to please find me a copy. Now it is available with all her other books on Amazon.

Gluten-free was not available 10 years ago. So the only recipes were expensive, hard to make, and horrible to taste.
The first Gluten-Free recipe I EVER had has her Snickerdoodle Cookies from A Gluten-Free Kitchen. Oh So Good.
Now, everything that I cook is great tasting - which is not common with other gluten-free recipes, and only with Robyn's recipes.

The first book uses corn starch and potato starch for flours. Every recipe is outstanding. Pancakes taste like "Spudnut" doughnuts without the frosting and they take seconds to mix and make. Dinner rolls taste like Store bought potato rolls.

I also recommend all her books. All her recipes are great tasting, great texture, and easy to make.

You Still Won't Believe It's Gluten-Free is fantastic. She offers recipes with different flours, and they are not gritty.

This book gives you so much more than just recipes to try for those who suffer from gluten intolerance. You are guided on the different flours to use. You are advised on items to remove from your pantry. This book also shows you how to go about cleaning your kitchen and so much more.

Wow I never knew that there was so much to learn about going Gluten Free. I have a niece who is convinced she has Celiac disease. She went on the gluten free diet and said she felt the best she has in almost 20 years. She has now convinced me to give it a go. So after seeing my doctor this coming Friday I have decided that I will have to give this diet a serious try and see if it helps improve my symptoms.

You will also find recipes under the following categories; Appetizers, Breakfast, Breads-Loaves, Breads-Rolls Flatbread Pizza Crusts etc., Quick Breads and Muffins, Soups and Stews, Chicken and other Poultry, Beef and Pork, Fish and Seafood, Pasta Rice and Potatoes, Vegetables, Cakes, Special Cake Layers, Icing and other Toppings, Cookies and Bars, Other Desserts

I highly recommend this book to those suffering from Celiac disease, gluten intolerance or just having had health issues for years that the doctors just have not been able to pinpoint. While there is a lot to take in with cleaning, and what to throw out etcetera it seems to be worth it to see if you feel better just by cutting items out of your diet.

5/5 stars

I received an ARC of this book from the NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
