5.0 out of 5 stars A great read for skeptics!, June 9, 2000
By
This review is from: You Can Talk to Your Animals: Animal Communicators Tell You How (Paperback)
For a long time, I approached the idea of animal communication with the skepticism Janine Adams describes in this book. But, unlike other authors of books on this subject, Adams doesn't gussy up her prose with mystical, psuedo-poetic New Age-y language. In a clear, down-to-earth style, she describes how animal communication works, how it can improve your relationship with your pet, and how anyone can learn to do it. Her pragmatic approach has helped me become more open to the idea of communicating directly with my own beloved pet.

5.0 out of 5 stars A captivating book, January 31, 2002
This review is from: You Can Talk to Your Animals: Animal Communicators Tell You How (Paperback)
This is a very enjoyable book, well worth its money.

It will make you cry, it will make you laugh, it will make you think and it can help you start communicating with your animal friend.

This book has many stories from various professional animal communicators. Stories of lost and hurting animals, of troubled and happy ones. What never seizes to amaze me is the capacity of those creatures to love. While their owners/guardians are troubled by guilt, the animals rarely hold bad feelings about them.

The greater part of the book is consumed on these stories. However, the last chapter is a "How to" guide, compiled of exercises and techniques of various professionals. Some are easy, some are impossible, but most of them have results. The info on many animal communicators (phone number, web site etc) are also listed there.

In the US there are workshops on animal communication. However, if you are unable to attend one, this book is a good place to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical attitude, June 5, 2000
By
This review is from: You Can Talk to Your Animals: Animal Communicators Tell You How (Paperback)
Janine Adam's book opened up areas of possibility that I had never contemplated. She presents a variety of reasons for using an animal communicator. She helps the reader not to feel silly about the subject - many people may associate animal communication with the psychic hotlines at a 900 number, but the abilities of these communicators are presented in a non-"new agey" way that keeps your feet planted on the ground. Even skeptics will appreciate the grounded attitude she presents. The possibility of gleaning background information about an animal who was a stray or from a shelter is a tantalizing one, as is the ability to help diagnose a medical condition. Getting to the root of a behavior problem can be accomplished faster with a communicator. One sad facet is that the one area you would think communicators would be most helpful - finding lost animals - is actually the hardest one for many communicators, and some refuse to take on that heartbreaking task.

One of the most interesting aspects is the different ways that communicators understand the animals. Some hear words, some see visual images. When discussing medical concerns, a communicator can feel where the animal's pain is located, and what kind of pain it is.

The anecdotes she presents illustrate the usefulness of the information that can be gained from an animal communicator's services. Her subject is well researched, and the book is an easy, interesting read. She opened my mind to possible uses and benefits of animal communication. For me, it's hard to get away from the concept that the subject is ridiculous, but the book allows me to think of the concept without feeling skeptical, or as though I'm about to be used by a con man who is going after my savings. Her book opened my mind.
