Of a Hardcore singing legend. Adina will never garner the mainstream appeal that her peers like Britney Spear or Janet Jackson has but there is something more real about Adina and sincere despite her "in your face" sexuality (not to mention this woman can actually sing)! Before you get her new CD "Second Coming", get this. In fact, I'd recommend that you buy both because you'll see how she started and how she's progressed since then.

As for this album itself, it was a very good debut. True, the only real hit from this CD was "Freak Like Me" but other recommended songs would be "Its All About You", "My Up And Down" and "If We Make Love Tonight." Really, there isn't a bad song on the CD.

I also called her a singing hardcore legend but to be honest, she really isn't that edgy. She's more enticing than raunchy. She's more likely to attract you rather than scare you off. Plus, this came out in 1995, her new album "The Second Coming" just came out this month and this is 2004 and people were still talking about her! To me, if people are still talking about you years after your first CD, you've done something right! Of all the Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop CD's out there right now, I'd recommend this one and her new one together. And, if you are lucky, find her unreleased CD "Welcome To Fantasy Island" which never got play over in the U.S. but was popular on the streets and overseas.

THIS IS AN ADULT PARTY HERE! WHILE THERE IS NO PARENTAL LABEL, THIS CD ISN'T FOR KIDS! FOR LOVERS, BABY MAKERS AND FREAKS ONLY!

Adina's first album. Adina is the original artist of "Freak like
me" that went to No.1 in the UK with the Sugababes. Her version is much better. It
is much more R&B and has no guitars , like the Sugababes version has. The
album features Michael Speaks and Yo-Yo. Other songs are "My up and down"
and "You got me humpin". Adina also sung "What's love got to do with it"
with WarrenG

Circa 1995, there was a song that had many people singing, dancing and wondering who the chanteuse was. The song was "Freak Like Me" and the artist? Adina Howard. This song was very successful after the public got a dose of it. It could be because of the explicit nature of the song, the catchy chorus, and/or the nice beat. This song is featured on her debut album entitled "Do You Wanna Ride?" Adina Howard went on to release another album and single, but the single was not nearly as successful and "Freak Like Me."

Although this entire album is inundated with sexual overtones, Adina Howard actually has a very nice singing voice. She hit some impressive high notes and is able to stay on key quite well. I, for one, was taken in by her vocals. On "Horny For Your Love", Adina uses her upper register and does a nice job. On this ballad, she croons, "I'll do anything you want me to." She did deliver this song well, but it is obvious that she held back some of her vocals because this song is geared more so toward getting a couple in the mood rather than impressing them with soprano vocals. I wish she would have given me just a few more of those high notes, though. Like "Horny For Your Love", "My Up and Down" is a very raunchy ballad. The melody and lyrics are good and the beat has a sexy aura. "You Got Me Humpin'" has that 1990s R&B sound to it. This is the song that opens the album, and, thought I feel she could have opted for a better album starter, this song is alright. The rap included is decent, but the hook is on the weak side.

This is in no way intended to downgrade Adina Howard as an artist, but you can find this album for next to nothing, even if you purchase it new. Therefore, go ahead and purchase it because it is a decent offering by a more than decent chanteuse.

Mikeisha's Top 5

1. "Freak Like Me"
2. "Baby Come Over"
3. "Do You Wanna Ride?"
4. "My Up and Down"
5. "Horny For Your Love"

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, December 16, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Do You Wanna Ride (Audio CD)
Adina Howard's 1995 debut album featued the #2 Platinum single "Freak Like Me". It also featured several other minor hits "My Up & Down" and "It's All About You". A remixed version of "It's All About You" was released to radio although the album version is much better in my opinion. Sex sells, yes it's cliche but apparently Adina wasn't sexy enough to be considered more than a one hit wonder. Although the album went gold and to date sold 1.3 million copies that still wasn't enough to keep Adina on the billboard charts. After being dropped from her record lable in 1997 she finally retured in 2004 with a very underrated and unpromoted album "The Second Coming". Now in 2006 Adina is set to release a new album "Private Show". I just hope that she will have another hit because it's obvious that fans love Adina but critics will always refer to her as a one hit wonder unless she comes back strong.

ADINA HOWARD is a very beautiful, attractive, and sensual woman. Her vocals are awesome even though she doesn't really test them on this album. I loved every song, they are all original and show that she's not afraid to be just who she is. I fell in love once I saw her open at a concert for Boys II Men in 7th grade and I've been a huge fan ever since... There's just something about Adina that I love... Can't help it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Cliche! Cliche! Cliche!, June 16, 2004

Adina Howard attained superstardom with the platinum selling raunchy debut single "Freak Like Me" from her debut album do You Wanna Ride?. It was the cliche catchy, bouncy groove that fit right into the urban mainstream with its erotic lyrics and had an irresistible sing-along hook. Upon first impression, you would think her debut album would be in the similar vein. For the most part, it was. The only problem was nothing else on it was memorable.

It does have its moments though, as the erotically driven "My Up & Down" and the sexually explicit "Horny For Your Love" are quite interesting. In fact, Adina does show some decent vocal skills. But, not even that can salvage a dismal album as mediocre production and cliche sexual lyrics outweigh her vocal presence.

I rate the album a 3 just for the smash debut hit and a couple other tracks that charted. However, let there be no mistake...this album is not essential for any music lovers' collection. In fact, you would be better off purchasing the "Freak Like Me" CD singles.
