Product Description

It's easy to get to the North Pole. The hard part is getting someone else to pay for the trip.

Christopher Columbus needed a sponsor for a dangerous expedition but the King of Portugal wasn't interested. He repackaged his proposal for the Queen of Spain. She put Columbus on retainer and the rest is history. Columbus may not have been the first to discover America, but he had a great publicist.

That's where Jeff Blumenfeld comes in. For many years, using a PR specialty called adventure marketing, Jeff has connected explorers and their projects with corporate sponsors looking to demonstrate product performance in extreme conditions. His book takes the reader from Erik Weihenmayer's expedition to be the first blind man to summit Mt. Everest, to the first con-firmed dogsled expedition of the North Pole, to Audrey Mestre's deadly free dive expedition off Bayahibe Beach in the Dominican Republic. You Want To Go Where? is the only book that not only takes you behind-the-scenes of some of the most dangerous adventure expeditions in recent years, but shows how you can fund and arrange your own trip, including details on everything from grants to sponsorships.

For anyone who's ever had a dream to scale the tallest mountain or cross the largest ocean, You Want To Go Where? is ideal for armchair explorers and budding adventurers alike.

10 color illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book before you write your request for sponsorship!, August 23, 2009
By Peter Sachs "LOWA Boots" (Stamford, CT United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you are planning a trip or adventure of your own read this book before you go soliciting sponsorship. As one who receives lots of requests for both gear and money, I always have to ask a few questions including why should our company help pay for your vacation or dream trip with your buddies?, what will you do for our brand and products that no one else can do?, and are you so good that you should get product or money for your trip to see the world, climb the mountain, seek the adventure while we toil at work?
Jeff's book wil help you answer those questions up front and in the end if you still put a proposal together, it will be a much better proposal that will be taken seriously! You will have also thought out your plans, needs and challenges much more thoroughly and in the end you will probably have a great expedition as a result!
Have a great read and a better trip!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Than a How-To Book, November 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Jeff's storytelling ability, honed in newspaper feature writing, is evident in this book. While primarily a primer for adventurers interested in finding corporate sponsorship and funding for daring expeditions, Jeff's experiences in putting together such partnerships have resulted some lively anecdotes that make these lessons seem more human. It's a well-organized, fast and light read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Master!, October 21, 2009
Jeff supremely understands that modern-day exploration ultimately involves making it relevant to mass audiences. He is an absolute pioneer in adventure marketing and showing corporations how they can align their brands with endeavors that push the limits of human endurance and understanding. He has enabled more exploration than any other human in the past half century. "You Want to Go Where" is the starting place for anyone who wants to climb a mountain, cross a continent, head out to sea or fulfill their dreams of exploring our world-and have it matter.
