The contents of Farnham's guide is essential for anyone seriously considering relocation. The invaluable information he provides gives the positives and negatives of living in Florida. Read this practical book about day-to-day life in Florida if you're thinking of moving to paradise. Many helpful pointers which has already made my life simpler. Jam-packed with simple, crisp declarative sentences that makes reading the book both interesting and easy.

This book is packed with helpful tips. Did you know you can't get your driver's license and car registration in the same place? There are two different (and far apart) offices for this. Or that moving and buying houses is much easier during the off season (Jun-Sept)?

Also covered are tips on: what to look out when buying housing that you wouldn't up north (trees, fire ants, etc), why you should turn on the pool lights before getting in (alligators!), obtaining homestead exception to reduce your property taxes, obtaining beach parking stickers, Florida problems and challenges, birds, alligators, dolphins and other flora and fauna.

Down to earth, practical advice that can save you time and money and, most importantly, headaches!

A real jewel.

I read this book and liked it. There is a lot of stuff about Florida that I wouldn't have thought to consider when making a decision to move there. There are many differences than other areas of the U.S. For example, most houses don't have a basement, so you better keep that in mind if you need the space. In addition to the practical move information, there is a number of chapters on recreation (Weekend trips, Key West, Parks, Beaches etc). This would probably also be useful to current residents.

I am so glad I found this book. I got interested in going to Florida, but wanted to know what to expect. Well this book takes a Yankee like me and shows what to expect. Very well written and so interesting. Buy it, you will not regret it.

The book has a lot of valuble information which was why I ordered it. It is especially written for people looking to retire in Florida, which is not me. This made it to where I ended up just skipping some chapters. All in all if your looking to move to Florida, this does have some very good stuff, especially if your moving around Ft. Myers.(where the author obviously lives.)

What a terrific resource. Lots of useful and practical information about relocating to Florida, all in one place. It includes lots of personal observations and enough anecdotes to keep the reading breezy and enjoyable. I will refer to this before AND after the move!

Unfortunately many things have changed since 2004 when this book was written. Better buy would be a more updated one.

A little outdated now, but still useful. I found it so helpful, I bought my dad a copy before he made the move. I still flip through the pages to get ideas on trips and things to do. Thanks Stan!

After reading all the good reviews I bought this book. I went to Florida and had very little useful information. The way it is written and the content are poor.

Lots of good information and things you would not even think about until you actually experienced them. I am glad I read it!
