The contents within this book relate a family's journey though life encountering the trauma of birth defects. It is the desire of the family to have this book available to inform and inspire others and help them understand there is life after a friend or family member is born with, or later develops, a handicap. The birth defects outlined in this book are known collectively as Apert Syndrome. It is a quite rare occurrence primarily characterized by specific malformations of the skull, midface, hands and feet. The skull is prematurely fused and unable to grow normally; the midface appears retruded or sunken; and the fingers and toes are fused together in varying degrees.
