5.0 out of 5 stars best beginner book i read
I own a library of three dozen books, and this one is absulutely the best for a beginner. Even explains some stuff that was never clear to me before, and I have read volumes on the subject. A must have.

2.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly objective tone, but....
If you want to know the history of the Craft, don't read this book. It has one citation, and that is to The Encyclopedia of the Occult. And that, even, was just to correct her previous histories where she just spat out commonly repeated claims of the Pagan community. Just think before you read. If you want the commonly repeated misonceptions of the Pagan community...

5.0 out of 5 stars Answered My Questions, August 25, 2006

This review is from: If You Want to be a Witch: A Practical Introduction to the Craft (Paperback)
This book was a very easy read. All the millions of questions I had in my head were answered at least in part by this book. She does a great job of taking you through the basics, and at the same time leaving you wanting to do more research. She helps make you feel more confident about selecting other books and resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners, April 25, 2005

This review is from: If You Want to be a Witch: A Practical Introduction to the Craft (Paperback)
This book is one of the best books I have read for beginners are even those that have to step back and review what they have learned to help them on their journey.
I have been practicing since Yule. Here a few weeks ago I was at a stand still and once I picked up this book I was able to understand things better then when I first started. The Author explains things such as the book of shadows really well and also teaches you how to do a basic meditation. I feel everyone sould read this book.

Yes, a very good introduction. I personally like the emphasis on meditation. A must have for any wiccan beginner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Beginner Book, November 12, 2010
This review is from: If You Want to be a Witch: A Practical Introduction to the Craft (Paperback)
I have purchased several beginner wicca books, but none of them helped me understand wicca as well as this book did. When I first saw the cover I thought it was going to be geared more towards teenage girls and have too much "fluff" as they say. So I was hesitant to buy the book at first, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. The author gives a great base of information for beginners in a writing style that's simple and easy to understand. She gives just enough information to help you understand what wicca is about and to begin practicing, but she doesn't overwhelm you with more information than you need to know as a beginner, like some of the other beginner books I have read. Don't be fooled by the cover like I was, this book is geared towards an audience of all ages, not just teenage girls. I'd recommend this book for any beginner or anyone who has an interest in learning about wicca.

Edain is a wonderful writer. This book is very simple to understand, not a lot of elaborate gadgets needed to perform your spells. This should be the first book laid in the hands of anyone who is curious about living their life as a true, honest, Blessed Witch.

I personally love McCoy's writing style, and this book is no exception. She lays out the most basic groundwork for the beginner, showing them what the RELIGION is about without going too deep into the realms of magick. I personally also love the way she emphasizes meditation and practice, and challenges the reader. "Knowing this, do you still want to be a witch?" A great prep material for the craft, it should be read with her book Magick: What it is and How it Works for the best effect, along with other Wicca 101 books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the Novice, May 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: If You Want to be a Witch: A Practical Introduction to the Craft (Paperback)
As I was scanning this book in my local bookseller, I have to give Ms. McCoy credit for creating an intro book with less fluff than Silver Ravenwolf. The only reason I won't be purchasing this book is that a) I've been studying this for years (this book is ideal for the complete novice), b) This work is similar (although watered-down for novices) to Laurie Cabot's Power of the Witch (if you are continuing on the path of Witchcraft I would suggest at least looking at Ms. Cabot's works. Even though I'm not sure if I will buy this book (it may be useful as a quick reference, although Fiona Horne's Witch: A Magical Journey would also be useful), I think that it would be of great help for anyone who is "just curious" about Witchcraft (or Wicca in this case).
