5.0 out of 5 stars Worth It... And Then Some
Ottie offered a two day / eight hour class through a continuing education program in Denver that did little more than regurgitate his book for the people that didn't bother to read it before the class. That's not a criticism- His book was great, and some of the things I learned were so contrary to what I had learned about publishing that it was good to hear it in person...

3.0 out of 5 stars mixed bag of advice
This book to me was a mixed bag of advice. Some very good, some 'duh' advice, and some I could have read a novel on the subject and not needed. The 'puke it out' analogy is a valid one and certainly a point that bears repeating for young writers who get side tracked, but some of the advice for publishing is so contrary to what publishers are asking for that I am...

Ottie offered a two day / eight hour class through a continuing education program in Denver that did little more than regurgitate his book for the people that didn't bother to read it before the class. That's not a criticism- His book was great, and some of the things I learned were so contrary to what I had learned about publishing that it was good to hear it in person.

This book quickly and simply opens your eyes to all of the different ways to get published, and then helps you figure out what is best for you.

Since reading his book I was able to find a publisher and I'm meeting with a cover designer. Most importantly, because of what Ottie taught me, I retain the final decisions relating to the title and to the cover design which I think will help me sell more books.

I've researched a lot, but it seems a lot of 1st time authors are starting to figure out that commercial publishers do not care about them. So, they end up out on the road promoting their work alone with zero help from a publisher that took them 18 months to get to market with a 10% profit (if they are lucky).

I'll try to get back to you with updates as I go down this road, but I've been EXTREMELY happy that I have a much higher profit potential and that my publisher can get me to print while my book is relevant.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've always wanted to write a book..., May 1, 2008
This review is from: So, You Want To Write A Book - Jumpstart Your Publishing Success (Paperback)
I've always wanted to write a book and thought to myself it was a pipe-dream! But "So You Want To Write A Book" gave me the confidence I needed to attempt what I previously dismissed as impossible. I am amazed how its simple approach has made me task a pleasure and my progress is rapid and impressive! I can't wait to send Mr. Seiden a copy with a note of gratitude.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a short and simple book, but it packs a lot of punch, September 7, 2008
This review is from: So, You Want To Write A Book - Jumpstart Your Publishing Success (Paperback)
Full of great ideas by someone whose traveled the publishing path over and over - commercial publishing, self publishing and print on demand and partner publishing, with co-authors and alone, Seiden gives great advice on what to look for in a publisher, agent, editor, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars If i Can Write a Book, Anyone Can Write a Book!, July 28, 2011
This review is from: So, You Want To Write A Book - Jumpstart Your Publishing Success (Paperback)
I've had over 40 books published by ten different publishers (Google Othniel Seiden) and I'm probably no better a writer than you. I wrote this book because I do know how to get a book written in as short a time as possible and find the best publisher to reach my readers.

Over the years, I've listened to lots of "authorities on writing" (most unpublished) telling groups of hopeful writers how to do it. Well, in real life it's different than you've been preached to. This book tells it how it really is. Writing is not that hard, and getting published is even easier, marketing is really the name of the game.

In this book, I'll tell you the truth of the matters and get you published in less time than you could immagine.

3.0 out of 5 stars mixed bag of advice, April 29, 2009

This book to me was a mixed bag of advice. Some very good, some 'duh' advice, and some I could have read a novel on the subject and not needed. The 'puke it out' analogy is a valid one and certainly a point that bears repeating for young writers who get side tracked, but some of the advice for publishing is so contrary to what publishers are asking for that I am hesitant to consider the advice. In an industry that seems very steeped in following directions the call, call, call advice threw me a bit. Overall, I'm glad to have read it, but would not count it among the top guides I have read or have on hand.
