I got Mark Miller's new CD "you were here" this week in the mail and it's amazing. I've been playing it non-stop in my car. It's good driving music. I think it has more of a fuller band sound than his last two cds which are also great. I really like the sound of his female backup singer too, Mara Hitner. Brilliant! My boyfriend thinks he's got a Steve Earle thing going on. We grooved along in the car to the song "you're so strange" and labeled it "the cowbell song"; i don't know if it has a cowbell but it's that kind of song. Mark's songwriting always makes me think of Bob Dylan. I think my favorite song is "the great pretender" because the lyrics are offered up in delightful morsel bits, the delivery is best-friend conversational, and the music's got a back and forth kinda sway. Some songs I get an Alanis Morissette reaction like what woman did this to your heart? I guess we have to thank the muse. Not all the songs though: "call on me" for example feels like you shouldn't give up hope in the world with beautiful harmonies and violin. It's been awhile since I've listened to a cd so much, thanks, Mark!

This CD is okay in it's own right, but I was very disappointed to receive the wrong Mark Miller CD.

Mark Miller's new CD was well worth the long wait! He's taken this CD to the next level with a fuller sound but at the same time has kept the integrity that makes his music so unique. His lyrics speak to everyone who's ever dealt with heartbreak and makes you think of your life and situations in a new light. I particularly love "Last Laugh", it's a great song to listen to when you feel like things just aren't going to get better but need some reassurance that someday they will. I highly recommend this CD to anyone and everyone.
