Great sermons for veteran christians, December 27, 2009
This review is from: You Were Made for More: The Life You Have, the Life God Wants You to Have (Hardcover)
A great book indeed. However, I would recommend it primarily to those who had read the Old Testament or at least the history between Joshua's fight into Canaan and Saul's annointment as Isreal's first king. Otherwise, the author's other masterpieces, in particular "Fresh Faith", "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire" will be better alternatives. No matter what, an excellent spiritual food for thought! Highly recommended!
p.s. Below please find some of my favorite passages for your reference.
If I were to spend three days sitting and watching TV for eight hours a day, eating cookies....I should be well rested, right? ..Actually the opposite is true....Muscle tone is developed and energy is created not by doing nothing, but by doing something. This principle holds true in the spiritual realm as well. pg18
We are slow to learn that the importance of any service depends upon God's estimate of it...that the meanest service...is worthy of all devotedness and zeal if the mind and heart of God are upon it, and if He has put it into your hand. pg26
We would do well not to focus on the troubles lined up against us. Instead, we need to celebrate the God who has already demonstrated his power and provision in the past...What a difference it would made if we simply paused once an hour or to say, "I praise you, Lord. You've been so good to me! I give you thanks." Just think how much more joy and peace would be ours all day long. pg37-8
When we run out of things to ask for, we stop praying. If we would stay in God's presence a little longer and listen, he would pour out his heart and mind to us. He would tell us invaluable insights into our circumstances. He would counsel us on some family problme or testy relationship at work. He would reveal whether we should say yes or no to a present opportunity. We need his guidance, and the good news is that he is more than willing to give it if we ask in faith. pg101
You dont need to strive for a master's degree in "flesh methodology." You are far better off focusing on God's power and presence in your life. pg157
God says in essence. "You may not have the right connections - but you have me! I'm your source. I'm the one you need to call." pg169
What the world calls great is often an abomination to God. What the world laughs at - devotion, consecration, faith - is what God calls great. pg184
Another tactic Satan uses to steal our peace is to flood us with anxiety...Phil 4 has a remedy for this, too. too. It says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (v.6)...Worry says, "God doesnt care, and so He wont do anything - I'll have to worry it through." Faith says, "God does care, and He and I will work it out together. I'll supply the willingness, and He will supply the pwoer - with that combination we can do anything." We we truly release our anxieties to God, "the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Chris Jesus. (v.7) That is a divine guarantee. pg203-4

This was very helpful in understanding the Bible and my purpose. It made it current and easy for me to relate things that I do everyday. I am greatful that there is a book out there to assist me in applying everyday life to the Bible. I have a new appreciation for it.
