Yes, it is pretty scathing to the US but come on!

Their incredible vocal, lyrical, and instrumental talents make almost every song they ever recorded amazing.

I don't feel like "You Will Go to the Moon" makes of Americans; I think it's just a fun song!

I think your review says more about the reviewer than the product. Although you are quite right that Michigan Militia refers to an American phenomenon, the other songs you mention do NOT. Perhaps you think all conservatives are American (Your New Boyfriend)? Or only we get plastic surgery (Incredible Medicine Show)? I have to admit that Canadians aren't going to the moon on their own any time soon. However, the song (You Will Go To The Moon) is still not a specific critique of American lunar landings, but the general (and international) phenomenon of exploiting space, and the pointless pursuit of Progress for its own sake. Imperialism, you say? Not once did they mention conquest or colonies, so you are misusing that term.
As for the forementioned Michigan Militia, did you know that there actually IS a Michigan Militia? They are one of the most prominent right-wing militias in the 'States. Not only that, but being in Michigan they are proximate to Canada, so no doubt the Canadians may be more aware of them than they are of other such groups. Now this critique is squarely aimed at Americans, but I hesitate to call it 'anti-American'; not all criticisms of America reflect anti-Americanism, whether issued by natives or foreigners. Personally, I am not a fan of these groups, so at least they are not part of MY America.
Nevertheless, confusing those other songs for anti-American rhetoric demonstrates an embarrassing cultural egocentricity on YOUR part (I'm not going after America, just you).
That being said, this is an excellent album. We already know that Moxy Fruvuous are masters of vocal harmony and catchy songs, and their lyrics alternate between the overtly political and purely whimsical.

Canada's Moxy Fruvous proves once and for all that it is more than a novelty act with You Will Go to the Moon. The most widely heard tracks from this album are "Michigan Militia," a biting look at Americans; and a glistening cover of the BeeGees "I've Gotta Get a Message to You."
In addition, this album showcases witty, topical but still Beatlesque pop tunes such as "The Incredible Medicine Show" and "Lazlo's Career" and rhythmically complex pieces like "Sahara" and "No No Raja."
The real development for the band in this album is that the rhythms, particularly in Murray Foster's bass lines, are as important as the four-part harmonies on which Moxy Fruvous made its admittedly unusual name. You Will Go to the Moon includes a nice, polished surface; as well as depth of composition, both lyrically and musically.

I was already a confirmed fan when I purchased the album, and this is a great addition to my collection.
If you think you like Moxy Früvous, then this is a no-risk purchase.

I worked in Northern New Hampshire with a transplanted Canadian who was really fond of these guys. When I asked her why she liked them so much, she could only say, "Because they're so Canadian!."

I think she's absolutely right. If you buy this album, you'll be charmed by the band's relentless charm and optimism, despite their generally unsentimental approach.

By far, my favorite cut is "You Will Go To The Moon." This song captures so much self-assurance and technological optimism. Gotta love it...

I know what moxy is, by the way, from the late 1950s. But Fruvous...

I was recently introduced to Moxy Früvous, and this was the first album of theirs I bought. Its absolutely delightful, even if this is your first listen to them. The incredible range explored here is fantastic, and I especially love the complex arrangements and vocal harmonies in _No No Raja_, and _Sahara_. _Michigan Militia_ is a satirical look at America's gun-culture, and _The Incredible Medicine Show_ could be straight out of "Sgt. Pepper".
A definite must-buy.

I first heard of Moxy at a dance where they played King of Spain and The Drinking Song. Mesmerized by these 2 excellent songs, I ran out and got Bargainville (Moxy's Best) and later purchased Live Noise.
Well...when I saw this CD for 5 bucks in a pawn shop, I had to get it. Not as good as Bargainville but better than Thornhill. Yes, it is pretty scathing to the US but come on! If you cant laugh at your country, who can you laugh at? Another great CD.
Now if only Moxy Früvous would come to Vancouver...

If you loved Bargainville, then you know how catchy and adictive this Toronto foursome is! "You Will Go to the Moon" is a different sound, but every bit as good! The best thing about Moxy is the wide gambit of styles that they perform, each played to perperfection. The number of great tracks off this CD are too many to name, but this album is a must have in your CD library. Also, be on the lookout for their album "Wood," which, alas, has only been released in Canada. It has some of their greatest stuff.

I love this album. I bought it when it came out (was new to Fruvous, then), and still find it enrapturing. Everything is spot on - the musicianship, the engineering, the production, and (most importantly) the fun. The versatility and creativity of the band is really on display.

The album takes you on a ride, and it's one of the few that I consider entertaining enough to listen to with undivided attention. It's a real treat, especially when you need a pick me up.
