Truly Complete, User Friendly, Too,
By Terrie (Little Chute, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You and Your Cat (Paperback)
I have nine cats and I also do rescue work with stray and feral cats so I really appreciate all of the useful and easily accessible advice and information in this wonderful book. It was written by a leading British veterinarian and the differences in national attitude toward cats is evident and rather interesting (I prefer the more humane British outlook.)The book contains virtually everything one needs to know to choose and care for a domestic cat as a pet. There is a thorough section with beautiful photographs of all the different breeds, coat and color variations. There is ample information on grooming, feeding and nutrition and everyday care. It has unique diagnostic charts that show how to spot signs of illness and gives practical ideas for first aid and home care as well as advice on when to call the vet. It has a really great section on pregnancy and kitten care. The information in this book enabled me to save the life of a first born kitten born to an inexperienced queen that was abandoned by the confused young mother and left to get very cold and weak. I immersed it up to its neck in a bowl of warm water and massaged it according to the book's directions and "Lazarus" went on to become a very beautiful long-haired charcoal gray cat with four white socks, a plump and happy family pet. When my husband first found him laying on the kitchen floor he thought the kitten was already dead. This book is chock-full of good advice that is well-indexed and easy to locate. It covers every aspect of a cat's health and life including feline personality and behavior. There are many good books on cat care and I've read a great many of them but this one is still my favorite and has given me the most help in understanding and caring for these delightful animals.

Crammed with info for curious cat carers!,
By A Customer
This review is from: You and Your Cat (Paperback)
This book has been my Bible for the past three months, which is when I adopted my Himalayan kitten, Jessica. I have enjoyed David Taylor's zoo stories books for years and when I found that he had written this book on cat care I was very relieved. This is the first time I have lived with a cat and I have constantly referred to this book to help me with my kitten. 'You and Your Cat' is easy to read and has all the practical help on how to care for your cat, as well as industry tidbits on feline history and trivia. I especially liked the section at the back which has an easy to read table on feline illnesses, preventions and cures.

The Incredible Molly Brown,
By Denise (Englewood, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You and Your Cat (Paperback)
If it wasn't for this book, The Incredible Molly Brown (our feline), would not be alive today! It was the information contained in the pregnancy process and kitten care sections, that gave us the knowledge to take on a little more than we wanted (smiles). Great addition for any cat owner.

I knew this book had some outdated facts when I bought it so that really wasn't a problem. Overall, I enjoyed the layout and way things were presented in the book.

Ordered "You and Your Cat" because I had just taken on caring for kittens and had never had cats before. This book is a wonderful source of information on everything from choosing a pet to caring for the pet once you bring it home. The book covers key stages in kitten development, caring for your cat from newborn to elderly. There is also a terrific health guide of symptoms that is easy to follow and lets you know what to look out for and when there is cause for concern. The reason I ordered this book is because I also have "You and Your Dog" by David Taylor, which I read before getting my first puppy. Both books are written in an easy, conversational style, for the everyday pet owner and I can totally recommend them to anyone wanting to take the best possible care of their pets.

I saw this book at the emergency vet when we had to take my friend's dog in and was intrigued. From what I read at the office, it was very well written and informative. So I decided to order it and I have to say I'm very pleased with it. it is indeed very informative and I love the illustrations and images. There are charts, tables, and descriptions that make this book fun to read and understand everything you need to know about your cat.

You&Your Cat,

This review is from: You and Your Cat (Paperback)
The March 1990 version of this book has been enormously helpful in understanding and my four cat companions. Though I have purchased many books from Amazon, this one has been by far the most useful purchase: The subjects in this outstanding explanation of my cats include everything from cat anatomy, choosing a cat, kitten care, housing and handling, feeding, grooming, understanding my companions' personalities(I share our house with three males and one female), health care, and first aid. The book has been such an eye opener that I strongly recommend its purchase to anyone who really wants to provide a healthy and loving environment for natures' most adorable and loving companions!

Good book to own if you have a cat. Much of the book is about cat breeds but there is also info on many other subjects such as health issues and proper care. Very informative.

This book is really wonderful, I picked it up when another cat book that I had been waiting for, failed to come in - I am not disappointed in the $$ spent! It is a wonderful book with great information (even for its age!). I keep it on my bookshelf with all my other reference books; it is a great addition.
