Editorial Reviews

(6-CD LP-sized box-set with 88-page book) George Hamilton IV has been the best ambassador country ever had. His 40-year career began with A Rose And A Baby Ruth in 1956, and he was a rock 'n' roll star for several years before he became one of the first rockers to return to country music. After signing with RCA, he broadened country music, recording songs by folk musicians. This set contains all the Colonial and ABC recordings, including A Rose And A Baby Ruth and Why Don't They Understand, as well as his RCA recordings up to 1965, including Abilene and Forth Worth, Dallas Or Houston. The set also includes private demos, live recordings from The Arthur Godfrey Show and The Grand Ole Opry, and many photos from George's personal collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars There is a whole lot here, April 17, 2002
By
Cory L. Schwent (Bloomsdale, MO United States) - See all my reviews
This is a lot of material and different musical styles. The quality of the music runs from pedestrian to fantastic. Unless you are a big fan, you won't want all of this. He was kind of boring. Kind of like if you have heard one of his songs, you have heard them all. The biggest suprise is on the last disk. A whole helping of him covering Wynn Stewart and Merle Haggard, and then a helping of live sets from the opry. You won't be upset if you get this, but this is a lot of material to digest.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice surprise for most people I would think, September 2, 2009
This guy is pleasant pleasant pleasant, another Bill Anderson I could say. Truthfully he recorded a lot of songs that he could have left on the shelf, but so did a lot of other artists. Bear Family give you EVERYTHING and are the leaders in what they do, so you get EVERYTHING, and I am a completest and I am happy with the set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete anthology 1956-65, June 16, 2001
By
Kees van der Hoeven (Eindhoven, Netherlands) - See all my reviews
All George's work from his best days (1956-65) is present in this box. A few oddities like early interview, demo and radio performance. The cd is edited by Bear Company, which garantees best quality and information. Beautiful book with lots of pics) added.
