4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book But Needs An Update, August 10, 2011
By
This review is from: YouTube For Dummies (Paperback)
I'm currently using this book to become more adept with YouTube and it is very informative and, as with most of the Dummies books,is well laid out. However this book was written in 2007 and four years, in the computer world, is an eternity. As a result, some parts of the book can be a bit confusing as it won't match up with the current version of YouTube. The first time I realized this problem was using the chapter on groups to try to use that feature. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't find the parts of the web page being referred to until I did a Google search on 'YouTube Groups" and found posts discussing their elimination from the web site last year. That's the better part of a whole chapter discussing a feature that no longer exists. How to use groups is again discussed in a later chapter and I have also run into some instances where the interface has been streamlined so it no longer matches up with instructions and illustrations in the book. That's why I give the book only four out of five stars. It's because about 20 percent needs to be updated.

5.0 out of 5 stars YouTube Fanatic, October 4, 2007

This review is from: YouTube For Dummies (Paperback)
YouTube is my favorite web site so I didn't really need to read this book. I only bought this book because it is about YouTube. The authors deserve a lot of "hater comments" because they merely describe how to use the web site. YouTube has already updated their web site, ensuring that this book will quickly become obsolete. I would have preferred a book that explored the social networking aspects of the YouTube community. They could have devoted more chapters to video production as well. There is also no mention of Stickam which is a web site you need to know about to become a YouTube insider. Also, I think potential vloggers should be strongly warned about the extremely malicious harassment that is being allowed to flourish on YouTube.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Tube for Dummies, December 21, 2011

Avoid letting the title of this book fool you. This is a very useful book for the beginner and for the person who is interested in making the most out of the YouTube experience. It is filled with a lot of valuable insight and is put in a format that is quite easy to follow. In my opinion, this can easily be a good reference book for both the beginner and for the far more advanced user of YouTube.
