Just as Amazon has reinvented the book publishing space, YouTube has reinvented the video production and distribution space, and marketers are leveraging YouTube in powerful new ways to expand their reach and strengthen their brands, according to Jason Miles in this book.

However, most established businesses fail to take advantage of the opportunities that YouTube offers because of:

• Lack of creative talent to produce engaging videos
• Fear of being on camera
• Internal bureaucracy
• Fear of taking risks, resulting in uninspired videos which fail to attract attention
• Misunderstanding YouTube’s purpose
• Failure to adopt a marketing strategy which will work on the YouTube platform
• Inability to accept videos with lower production values but higher engagement values

The author describes the YouTube marketing journey of his family’s business, and how they used engaging low-budget videos, interaction with commenters, contests, a range of YouTube promotional tools, and integration with other forms of social media, to build a substantial band of loyal customers. Key factors in the success included creating videos quickly and frequently, and showing a high level of responsiveness to feedback.

In my opinion this is a very helpful book, describing in a clear and interesting manner how any business can benefit from YouTube marketing. If everyone were to take the author’s advice, the value of video marketing would be diminished by overcrowding. Fortunately, most businesses suffer from too much inertia to take full advantage of YouTube, and accordingly substantial opportunities remain for anyone who has sufficient energy and persistence.

Harnessing YouTube Marketing Power

Jason G. Miles’ series of books on social media have changed my strategies. His book Instagram Power assisted me in going from zero to over 1000 followers in three months. I found another of his books, YouTube Marketing Power: How to Use Video to Find More Prospects, Launch Your Products, and Reach a Massive Audience, full of ideas that you can easily take advantage of.

Miles’ advice to tap into YouTube’s massive social network is: “Do something specific, consistent and excellent.”

My experience matches one of his quotes: “Your videos are, in essence, a conversation with your viewers, so be authentic and engage your viewers. Even if you only end up with one subscriber, you may never know the difference you are making in that one individual’s life.”

I like his reminder that videography does not have to be hard work but simply a commitment to “publish more frequently. Have more conversations.”

One of the most common mistakes he sees among business owners is that they undervalue YouTube as “a legitimate platform” and give up because they don’t see immediate results.

“Making online content is a long-term investment and should be treated as such,” Miles writes.

I agree with Miles that there is no “secret sauce,” but the dedication and effort to make great content that people want to share is worth it. Your videos can drive traffic and results for years. I have over 280 videos on my YouTube channel and 230,000 views. I started with a Flip video camera and 10 minutes of instruction from a fifth grader. Taking the first step is always the hardest part of any project.

I read this book looking for more marketing choices for on of my clients. I have used Youtube for researching new products before puchasing them and so does a huge portion of the population. I had no idea how to use it for promotional purposes. I was excited to find this source and was not disappointed when I finished reading it.
The author writer from his first hand knowledge. His family's business journey through the process of making the videos, acting, writing, what worked, what didn't, building loyal followers and much more. There is even information on camera shyness. The tools are here to get any business up and started.
I plan on recommending this book to my customers as another tool in their marketing portfolios. I also plan on picking up a copy for my teen children to help them sell their own products. I found it easy to understand and quick to read, and it answered my questions.

Mr. Miles has extensive experience marketing with YouTube. He uses YouTube to market his family's small business and he is on the marketing team at a Christian university.

The following topics are explored in this book:

•Some effective styles of video making.
•How to get your videos done quickly and easily.
•How marketers are creating massive followings on YouTube.
•How you can advertise on YouTube to drive traffic to your site.
•How to monetize your YouTube videos.
This book uses research, case studies and interviews to present valuable information on using YouTube as a marketing tool.

I chose this book because I am a YouTube FANATIC! I started a lifestyle channel on YouTube in 2007 as an online journal to document the places we visited and the activities we were involved in. This channel now has 460 videos and over 1 million views!

I was hoping to learn some new nuggets of wisdom to improve my YouTube Channel and I was not disappointed. Mr. Miles presented information that is helpful for the individual or small business users as well as large organizations.

I really liked the interviews that he used in this book. I was especially impressed with the social media director at Bishop T.D. Jakes' church in Dallas, Texas.
This interview explained why it is important to create "Playlists" on your channel. A Playlist organizes your videos into different subject categories so that people can find the videos they are interested in without having to browse through your entire collection.
