4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book But Needs An Update August 10, 2011
I'm currently using this book to become more adept with YouTube and it is very informative and, as with most of the Dummies books,is well laid out. However this book was written in 2007 and four years, in the computer world, is an eternity. As a result, some parts of the book can be a bit confusing as it won't match up with the current version of YouTube. The first time I realized this problem was using the chapter on groups to try to use that feature. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't find the parts of the web page being referred to until I did a Google search on 'YouTube Groups" and found posts discussing their elimination from the web site last year. That's the better part of a whole chapter discussing a feature that no longer exists. How to use groups is again discussed in a later chapter and I have also run into some instances where the interface has been streamlined so it no longer matches up with instructions and illustrations in the book. That's why I give the book only four out of five stars. It's because about 20 percent needs to be updated.

3.0 out of 5 stars good intro to YouTube but published in 2007 November 9, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is good for someone who really has no idea about YouTube and its history and wants some basic information.

However, it was published in 2007 and the information on the current version of YouTube is non existent.
Whereas it does have information as to what types of accounts are available on YT and the guidelines of what is acceptable and what is not.

But when I say the information needs updating a few examples: the book still mentions the 1 to 5 star rating system of videos which has been changed long ago to 'thumbs up or down' and there is an entire chapter on how to post You Tube videos to MySpace and no mention AT ALL of Facebook anywhere.

Also there is no information regarding the YouTube partnership program and all the screen capture pics are from the old version of You Tube. The books info only barely reflects the You Tube of today, it looks like the You Tube of 2007.

Really there are very few people who would benefit from a book like this with such outdated material. Its time for the authors to do a revised edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars YouTube Fanatic October 4, 2007
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
YouTube is my favorite web site so I didn't really need to read this book. I only bought this book because it is about YouTube. The authors deserve a lot of "hater comments" because they merely describe how to use the web site. YouTube has already updated their web site, ensuring that this book will quickly become obsolete. I would have preferred a book that explored the social networking aspects of the YouTube community. They could have devoted more chapters to video production as well. There is also no mention of Stickam which is a web site you need to know about to become a YouTube insider. Also, I think potential vloggers should be strongly warned about the extremely malicious harassment that is being allowed to flourish on YouTube.

3.0 out of 5 stars out of date but interesting June 25, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Written only a couple years ago means a lot has changed in this fast paced online world as well as the Tubesphere. A good read but don't forget that YouTube has gone through a full face lift since the writing of this book as well as ongoing major changes. Most important is that YT changes parameters on a regular basis. So this is no "Rosetta Stone" but interesting and good info to the newbie YouTuber. Better one to read IMHO is "YouTube, Climbing the charts"

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely outdated. February 18, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Things on Youtube have changed a lot since this book was written. Its illustrations don't match the revised look of Youtube, and the data entry points are no longer relevant. I don't understand why this book is still being sold. It was a complete waste of money.

2.0 out of 5 stars YouTubeTM For Dummies® is very old April 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm disappointed. This book is from 2007. I suppose it was pretty good for its time. But a lot has happened and changed since then. This book has not helped me with some of the "deeper" aspects of YouTube because some of the current features had not been developed in 2007. This book doesn't teach much that you can't learn on your own. My fault. I guess I didn't read the fine print to see the copyright date. Don't make the same mistake I did.

I hope to post some math tips for young adults on youtube. (-If Amazon does not delet this-) Transpose numbers to letters as in the square root of 14. I=1, H=4, E=3, L=7, p=6, S=5, B=8. tHE FIRST LETTER OF EACH WORD. Square root of 14= (I)nstill (H)ope
value is 3.741657387=(E)very (L)ife (H)as (Its) (P)ersonal (S)orrows
(L)ets (E)ver (B)e (L)oving

One more: sine of 85:It easy because each number is a square or a cubed number
sine 85=.996194698 Wait you say 61 is not a square number! Yes, but 16 is you forgot I'm dyslexic.
Again, but 46 is not a square number! Yes but again I'm dyselic, 64 is both a square and a cubed number
I am very dyslexic, and my desire is to support dyslexics in any way I can!!
I have MANY things like this related to math, and this book will help me get them online.
