5.0 out of 5 stars Great song. Great Price, domestic U.S. release!!
I first heard the song "Youm Wara Youm (habibi)" (Day after Day) in a night club in Madrid Spain. It took me 3 days of intense asking and searching to find out who the performing artist was. The song has a mid-tempo R&B rythm track and then the dueto arabic vocals are gorgeous. I dont speak a word of arabic and I loved the song. The chorus is...

3.0 out of 5 stars not my favorite
I thought this sounded canned, tinny, and too "processed pop". I chalk some of this up to my taste so I'm giving it three stars. She lacks the soul of Nawal el Zoghbi, who is light years better.

The better surprise was, that when I came back to the U.S., I was able to buy the CD domestic release for less than $10 dollars. Great job from Mondo Melodia for releasing this. It would be great if MTV and radio started playing it too.
We shouldnt ignore great music just because its in a different language.

This has got to be the most musically diverse Arabic pop album out there. The music ranges from Rai to Arabic pop to Arabic-style Hip Hop, Soul and R&B. The vocals are enchanting and Samira's performance is at its pinnacle. I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to this refreshing album. To me, it represents a milestone in the production of Arabic music for that it mixes very new sounds with old ones and in the process creating a new definition of what the new Arabic pop albums should sound like. Samira took a risk with this album and it totally paid off.

I love every single track on this album. Each track is very unique and will get to you in no time. It's versatility to please different musical tastes makes it worthy of the 5 stars.

If you are new to Arabic music, I recommend getting this album to get a feel of how Arabic music will sound in the next 10 years. If you are looking for traditional Arabic music, then this album is not for you. It's definitely influenced by Western and North African music more than traditional Arabic music.

Highlights: Youm Wara Youm, Ezzay Aheb, Allah Yesahillak, Koll El Awkaat and Layali Zaman (has a Michael Jackson beat to it).

I am an American that doesn't understand a word of what she's saying, but the voice, music, and emotion in her singing is perfect. I LOVE this album! We all need to reach beyond our own boundaries and "comfort zones" so we can truly embrace all the glorious talent in this world!!!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM!! I only came across this on recommendations, I had never heard of Samira before but when I listened to the sample tracks i loved it straight away and now it's on repeat on my iPod! My parents live in Turkey so spending a lot of time there I have a love for middle-eastern music and this is one of the best albums I heard. She has a great voice and the songs just make you wanna dance!!!! AMAZING!

4.0 out of 5 stars Morocco goes to Egypt, July 17, 2010

Felt lucky to find this still on sale. Samira is from Morocco but her style is said to be that of her adopted country, Egypt. The CD is pleasant and varied all the way through. Mostly ballads with orchestral backing. More listening than party. You don't need to understand a word of Arabic to enjoy this album. I don't know why people want to compare her with Nawal Al Zoghbi, even less with Natacha Atlas, they are so different. I like all three but would not mix their tracks in the same playlist. Especially liked these songs - "Koll El Awkaat", "Dahakteni", "Ragalak". Regarding the comment about the sound balance, just add some warmth if you feel the need. The recording quality is good, the singing and music too.

4.0 out of 5 stars I want more SAMIRA!, June 22, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Youm Wara Youm (Audio CD)
As a listener of Arabic stuff, this is pretty darn cool, if a little more pop than, say, Natacha Atlas (who I love, have all her discs). Samira is a little bit better of a vocalist than Nawal Al-Zoghbi (whom I also love), but about half of Youm wara Youm I like. This recording really makes me want to hear some more recent Samira.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional album for an exceptional singer, July 26, 2006

"Youm Wara Youm" CD is a fascinating release for the accomplished Arab diva, Samira Said. This album is truly versatile and offers a wide spectrum of musical styles and melodies that must appeal to people from the west to the east. "ALLAH YESAHELAK" song is a smash hit full of energy and beat.

Samira was expected to transcend cultures and reaches people around the globe simply because she is endowed with a senstive, deep, versatile, and dynamic voice of exceptional purity and quality and because she is a progressive singer who innovates and renovates.

Samira Said is indisputably reckoned to be one of the most remarkable icons in the history of modern Arab music. Starting her career in early eighties, Samira has actually contributed to the shaping of many lyrical and melodical trends in the current Arabic music and now she has become a prominent idol for many young Arabic singers who try to memic Samira's unique singing style and musical selections.
