4.0 out of 5 stars Young Adults is eccentric fun. October 2, 1997
By A Customer
Young Adults is a miscellany of Pinkwater's writings for young adults (though bigger kids will appreciate it, too). It includes his long 1982 story, "Young Adult Novel", about a group of five junior-high-school friends who have devoted their lives to the art movement of Dadaism, and whose classmates and administrators do not understand their passion for the bizarre. Young Adults is a hearty dose of Pinkwater's offbeat humor, though darker and more morbid than many of his other works. If you appreciate grim and esoteric, though wacky, humor, then you may enjoy Young Adults as much as I did, which was lots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Young Adults is genius! Some of Pinkwater's best. July 27, 2006
When I read Daniel Pinkwater's story Young Adult Novel which was included in the collection 5 Novels, I was thrilled. It was perhaps my favorite of Pinkwater's writings. I later found out that there was actually a sequel, I looked on the internet and ordered it.

The sequel included in this volume, called Dead End Dada, exceeded expectations for a sequel. It was great! The Young Adults series is much darker than most of Pinkwater's other books; it is somewhat similar to the fiction of Kurt Vonnegut, but a bit lighter and wackier, in a definite Pinkwater style. It is really a spectacular book.

This collection includes the original Young Adult Novel, along with the sequel, in which the Wild Dada Ducks pursue the wisdom of Zen. It also includes some short Kevin Shapiro stories sent to the author by fans and an excerpt from a (possibly) upcoming third book, The Dada Boys in Collitch. It is a shame that this book is out of print and hard to find. I really hope that Pinkwater finishes the third book and republishes these wonderful stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Young Adult Novel November 2, 2005
I have not in fact read Young Adults, but i have read Young Adult Novel, and have been thrilled time and again by discovering the real-life Dada basis for the boys' antics. If you can get this book for less than five novels, that alone would make it worth five stars. I am myself buying this book, and i suggest anyone with a sense of humor do the same.
