Biography

Jerry Lee Lewis, the Killer, is the rock n' roll singer-songwriter and pianist, whose enduring image will be him standing at the piano, limbs flailing, quiff flying, while he belts out "Great Balls of Fire" - his signature tune.

Lewis developed his style early, mixing boogie-woogie, rock, gospel and rhythm and blues. As a youth he was expelled from university for playing 'worldly' music. He moved… Read more in Amazon's Jerry Lee Lewis Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The Killer Never Left!!!, July 14, 2003
This review is from: Young Blood (Audio CD)
This disc came out in 1995 as a result of a soundtrack cut that Jerry did for the Dick Tracy movie. Andy Paley produced that soundtrack and thus an association was born. In 1994-95 Seymour Stein was running SIRE records, enter his producer,Paley, presto, we have "Youngblood" the Killer's last studio effort to date. This is a solid set from cut one ,Hank William's "I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive" to the final rockin' version of the Freddie Slack tune" The House of Blue Lights". In between we are treated to some red hot piano work, most notably on "Down the Road Apiece" in which Jerry Lee shows how to mix that strong left hand into some rather intricate runs with the right,it is an awesome display!!His take on Huey "Piano" Smith's "High Blood Pressure" is another ray of Rockin Sunshine' the vocals and piano are right there! The title cut is pure, vintage Killer, great vocals, very leering, playful, and fun. Goosebumps rocks (his appearance on Jay Leno to promote this disc was a hoot,he had 'em going to this cut and of course,Whole Lotta Shakin) Bobby Darin's "Things" and Billy Grammer's "Gotta Travel On" swing out,as does the Killer penned "Crown Victoria Custom 51" which is a summer cruising tune if there ever was one. The hauntingly melancholy "Miss the Mississippi...and You" by the immortal Jimmy Rodgers is especially touching,as it was recorded while Jerry Lee was just back from a 3 year stay in Ireland. This CD was,and is,an overlooked gem,get it if you can find it. Jerry's voice is in great shape throughout,it is deeper, and somewhat darker than earlier stuff, and several cuts are overproduced, still it is a winner. Supposedly, there are more cuts in the can from these sessions, maybe one day we'll be treated to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recent Killer Album, July 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Young Blood (Audio CD)
I'm a huge JLL fan so when I saw he had a new album, I bought it immediately (this was back when I only had a cassette player). I played it non-stop in my car. Great stuff -- just like the old days (only better recording values). "Crown Victoria" and "Down The Road A Piece" are especially great. "Youngblood" makes you squirm when you think of the Killer's penchant for young girls. "Lucky Ole Sun" is a terrific, moving ballad. This is a great collection, and my (then) 6-year-old son loved it too.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Killer Is Back..., July 7, 2003

I think it was when I read the Jerry Lee Lewis chapter in Henry Rollins' Black Coffee Blues pt.2 when I found out the Killer had released an entirely new album of material entitled "Young Blood".

Age notwithstanding, it holds up to any of his classics, and combines the energy of the 50s with the enhanced production of the 90s to create some of the most vibrant, timeless rock 'n' roll of all time.

"Down The Road A Piece", "High Blood Pressure", "Goosebumps", and "House Of Blue Light" are all classics, but the entire album is solid. An undiscovered gem if there ever was one.
