If you're thinking of buying this DVD think again and save your money. It's an obvious bootleg copy of the film. The picture is so grainy you could never believe this is a Brand New DVD.

This is a very poor copy. It is such a shame as this is such a good film.

I haven't seen this movie in years, and I still remember a great deal. I was disappointed to see some of the scenes were cut from the original movie. I hope that this is not a frequent practice of yours, for this is not a good way to do business.

Young Catherine, starring Julia Ormond, is possibly one of the most intelligent movies I have ever seen. The movie portrays a young woman who is sent to Russia by her family as a potential wife for the future Czar of Russia. While her mother accompanies her to her new world, she soon finds herself alone when her mother is kicked out of the country by the Czarina. Faced with a mandatory change in her religion, her language and even her first name, the young woman bravely struggles to do her duty. When she finally realizes that her soon-to-be-husband is insane, she agrees to marry him only when told that she could very well be Russia's only hope against his insanity. The movie is beautifully filmed, well-researched and extremely well-acted. I taped the original movie onto a VHF tape when it first appeared on TV and later I purchased the edited version--also on VHF. I have never found this movie on DVD and would like to change that situation. There are far too few movies of young women heroes, and this one is too powerful to lose.

I have a VHS copy of this movie recorded off the TV, so I was very excited when I received this item in the mail. The picture wasn't very clear at all, even using an upscaling blu-ray player. Truthfully, the picture wasn't much better than the VHS. Sadly some scenes were cut from the DVD. I have no idea why - it wasn't stated that it was an edited version. If I could have transferred the VHS to a DVD myself, I would have done so; saving myself the cost of the discs and the would have keep the edited out/deleted scenes.

at the time when this show aired, it was wonderful, after adaption to another media CD, the beauty is missing and there is too much interuption of the story.

Extremely disappointing. The sound quality was terrible. There was a constant "blip, blip, blip" throughout the entire movie. Very sad.

Would have liked to know this was a copy of a bad taping of the TV movie. Still enjoyed viewing it in spite of the poor quality.

It arrived on time. The movie has been watched by several of us, at different times, without any glitches. No problems at all.
