Where does innocence go?
While vacationing on the beach at Emerald Isle, North Carolina, high school student David Jennings meets an intriguing girl. Mary Roberts ignites feelings that stay with him even after they both return to their homes. Summer after summer, they reunite, building on the love that started to bloom from the first day.
Not only does David discover romance, but he also learns what “family” can mean. The loving Roberts family is in stark contrast to the Jennings. David is the only child of Roy, an ex-Marine and rigid cop, and secretive Sarah. As the young couple explores their future, the family secrets unravel—until tragic events manage to both bring together and divide the two families.

“Young Love Lost” is a tale of romance and suspense that will keep you guessing until the last page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book January 8, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was intrigued by this book as it promised romance and mystery. I definitely wasn’t disappointed.

This is a story about two people, David and Mary and their families. The characters are crafted very well by the author. The details, and deep attention to the details, by the author brings this story to life.

I was quite pleased with the read as I progressed then the author kicked the story up a notch with a very light teaser of a mystery looming behind the scenes.

At this point, other details sharpened and you definitely could see one character in sharper focus than before. Later when you think back, you’ll realize something just isn’t right.

I won’t give you any spoilers – not even one- but I will say this – I was so totally thrown by the twist that the author put in, I had chills.

I would love to tell you several things that unfold but I really think you need to experience the twists and turns as I did.

I will give you one little tidbit-the ending rocked.

The author really hit this one out of the ball park. Impressive read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put this book down! January 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Doug Burris' "Young Love Lost" is a story about a high school romance that begins when David Jennings meets Mary Roberts on the beautiful beaches of Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

David encounters Mary on the last day of his family vacation. Though time is scarce, they feel the romantic spark immediately through their common interests in classic novels and the outdoors. When David returns home, he can't get Mary off his mind. Mary thinks of David, but her friends persuade her that he is too good to be true.

During the next summer, they awkwardly meet again at Emerald Isle. They soon they rekindle their electrifying love, however. Both are completely committed and plan to attend college together, but something happens that turns their worlds upside down... In addition to romance, family dynamics also play a big role in "Young Love Lost."

The plot of "Young Love Lost" brings the reader on a wild ride that takes unimaginable twists and turns that are only resolved at the very end. The strength of “Young Love Lost," however, is most definitely the descriptive writing, which perfectly captures the essence of young love.

"Young Love Lost” is my favorite romantic suspense book yet! I was completely hooked and had to find out what happened to David, Mary, and their families.

2.0 out of 5 stars young love lost or writer confused? April 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I am surprised that in this age, in USA particularly, where women are educated and empowered, a housewife after finding freedom with car and a job, instead of walking out of the marriage, thinks of a plot to kill husband? Just does not make a sense to me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought it would be March 22, 2014
By Carrie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It started out like a romantic love story, then changed into a total mystery. It just wasn't what I thought I was going to be reading. And the villain was obvious the whole time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lost interest.... March 8, 2014
By Jenn
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The characters were flat. Some of their conversations seemed unrealistic. David's character reacted more like a female for the first part of the story. Later he seemed to be too easily duped by his mother. The plot was predictable to a degree; at least as far as the mother's involvement. The long passages that described the mother/fathers' feelings about their life just did not help me to connect with them. I'm not surprise where the author went wrong here, but I was unable to drudge up any sympathy or understanding of their frame of mind. To be fair, the problem here is probably with me and not with the authors style. I think the next time I read something by this author, I will choose something in a different genre.

2.0 out of 5 stars Easy read that left me wanting. February 25, 2014
By Sammi
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am in two minds about this book. I enjoyed the descriptive writing and some of the character development was really well done. I read the book in one sitting because it was quite easy to read, the blossoming love story was enjoyable to follow and I found parts of it were well written. Unfortunately parts of the story, especially the very end, felt rushed. The epilogue felt like it was tacked on the end to please the readers who want justice done and there was no explanation for it. Yes it was an obvious whodunit to the reader but the investigators hit a dead end and then suddenly they've connected the dots and there's no explanation as to why. In the end all the loose ends were tied up perfectly even if the part in the story had been glossed over. As much as I enjoyed parts of this book other parts had me wondering if I had accidently skipped a page or two. I finished the book disappointed and feeling let down.
