5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Dazzling...And The Music's Not Bad Either, May 29, 2001
This review is from: Young Girl Blues (Audio CD)
With all apologies to Ms. Foley, when I saw her at this local blues joint called Sully's in Dearborn, MI back in the early 90's, it was if a young Ann-Margret had sauntered onto the stage carrying a paisley Telecaster and stole my heart. And then she plugged in and started to play...and, well, my friends had to practically pick me up off the floor. Sue Foley is a blues diva/goddess/princess/fill-in-the-blank and is a monster on the guitar. This, her debut album, never got much attention but it deserves yours. "Cuban Getaway" and "Off The Hook" are merely two of the highlights on an album that finds Foley channeling guitar heroes past and present while managing to claim her own chunk of blues landscape. From out of nowhere, a beacon in the dark...

5.0 out of 5 stars Should get more attention, February 27, 2000
This review is from: Young Girl Blues (Audio CD)
Ms. Foley is a fabulous and dedicated musician. Do not miss the opportunity to see her live. This is a fine album. Susan Tedeschi (or however you spell her name) is fine, but doesn't deserve a bit more credit than Sue Foley. Buy this CD and it will make you happy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth owning, August 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Young Girl Blues (Audio CD)
My first exposure to Sue Foley was as a warmup band for John Mayall. This lovely, long-haired redhead came out in a little black dress and high heels, wielding a pink guitar. While her appearance was impressive, surely this little cutie couldn't play the blues. My jaw dropped when she tore into her opening number. I subsequently bought this album.

As is acknowledged in most of the reviews of her albums, her vocals leave a bit to be desired. Not bad, just not great. But her guitar playing IS great, and the material is well selected (although I could live without Ike Turner's "Cuban Getaway").

If you like straight-ahead, engaging blues with first-rate guitar work, go for this disk.
