Wallace Helena was born in Beirut. Her family escaped Lebanon during a Turkish rebellion. They fled to Chicago via Liverpool. After her father died, her mother fell in love with a pioneer living in the territories in Canada near Edmonton. After her mother and step-mother succombed to small pox, she discovered she inherited a soap factory owned by her uncle who had lived in Liverpool. For hundreds of pages, Wallace Helena decides what to do with the soap factory. Will she keep it, will she sell it, will she be fair to her cousin, her only living relative, who is her uncle's illegitimate son? Reread the last sentence fifty times. and then skip to the last thiry pages of the book.
