This review is from: Young Harriet Tubman - Pbk (Troll First-Start Biography) (Paperback)
Harriet Tubman Freedom Fighter by Anne Benjamin is a very wonderful story. My favorite part of the book is when Harriet helps the slaves escape. They were escaping from the slave owners because they were over worked and mistreated. This is a very fascinating and interesting book.I hope someday you read this very good book.

This review is from: Young Harriet Tubman: Freedom Fighter (Turtleback)
Benjamin does a great job telling the story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad for children ages 9-12. The text is very large and simple to read. The pictures have little detail, however, keep the interest of the reader. The author portrays Tubman from a young girl of 3 years old and follows her life till she dies at age 93. Even though the illustrations are simple, they are bright and colorful, which will help clarify this newly introduced subject matter to young children. It is also noted that Harriet Tubman worked as a spy for the Northern army, spoke out for women's rights and started schools for black children and homes for black families, all before she died in 1913. The author does a great job in displaying how Harriet Tubman cared for all kinds of people and not just herself. This is an important lesson that children should be taught at an early age.
