5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic! October 20, 2000
Format:VHS Tape
This is a really great movie! Ian Bohen's performance as the serious, yet fun teenage Hercules is truly award worthy! He seemed to capure the escence of the part that Kevin Sorbo recently made famous a bit more than Ryan Gosling, who played Young Hercules in the T.V. series. And, he's increadably cute! Dean O'Gorman played Iolas to a "T". Chris Conrad did not disappoint with his portrayal of the always serious, and determined, Young Jason. The chemistry between the actors makes the film even more enjoyable. It really looks like they're having fun working together! Another key character is Ares, played by Kevin Smith. He, as always, gives a truly inspired performance as the deliciously evil God of War. The director should really be accredited for casting such a talented group of actors, and using thier abilities to thier full potential. The breath-taking scenery of the New Zealand countryside is the backdrop of this innovative film. It was only fitting that the "Young Hercules" movie was shot in the same location of "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys". The soundtrack is also amazing. It really fits the tone and overall feel of the movie. It should definately not be missed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Before the Legendary Journeys... July 24, 2001
Format:VHS Tape
Considering they used pretty much the same production team as they did with H:TLJ, it was okay. No it wasn't the same, but it was close. This is before Hercules had his legendary journeys. It shows young Herc trying to impress his father and forging an unlikely friendship with Ioalus to help their new friend Jason, heir to the throne of Corinth. With the same crew that brought us "HTLJ" & "XWP" it's perfect.

Kevin Smith as Ares, Michael Hurst as a jeweler, & Meighan Desmond as Discord make appearances.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly great movie! October 21, 1999
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
I thought that this movie was absolutely fantastic! It is one of the best that I've ever seen. I believe that Ian Bohen's performance was truly award-worthy. The film's stars, plot, and storyline go beautifully with the breath-taking New Zealand backdrop. A definite must see!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Guys a Little More Grown-Up February 1, 2009
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was interested in this movie because I liked the TV show Young Hercules, and wanted to see where the story began. I was expecting this to roll in the same groove as the show by making these guys kind of like middle-school or high-school students dealing with the world from a youth's standpoint. Being a bit older than the intended audience (26 now), I always wanted these heroes to have a harder edge, to swear if they needed, to kill their enemies. I wanted them to grow up! Afterall they spent their lifetimes fighting monsters and vying with gods, right? They're entitled to adult language and darker attitudes. Well, I was not disappointed by this movie. (It wasn't over the top, of course.) The characters had the same basic personalities - Hercules with a golden heart and always striving to stay on this side of good, Iolaus the wise-cracking con-man, and Jason the take-charge prince about to be king - but being a movie and not a TV show, I think the writers were given more freedom to make these guys true warriors and not the watered down version that a "tween" audience required from the show.
My one problem, which probably barely counts because I study mythology and have a greater passion for it than most people, was there was no mention of Medea in Jason's quest for the Golden Fleece. And the only female cadet was named Yvenna, rather than making the part for Atalanta, the only female Argonaut mentioned in Greek myth. Ok... whatever, right?
Regardless, I still really enjoyed this movie, and would recommend this to any fan of the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys universe! Especially those fans of the Young Hercules world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very very good movie January 10, 1999

The music in this motion picture is absolutely fabulous, makes the entire movie flow seamlessly. A lot of violence and interfering gods, should be watched by the entire family. My children and I love it and watch it often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surely Wonderful July 18, 1999
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
The first time that I watch YH, I was taken by the amazing action and talents. When Herc and Iolis and Jason did their acts it really made the whole movie worth watching. I advise for the whole family to see it. And I really love Herc!

5.0 out of 5 stars You Will Love This Movie May 16, 2000
By "s123"
Format:VHS Tape
I have always loved Greek mythology so I loved this movie. I will not lie, you will get the most enjoyment out of this movie if you are a teenage girl, but it is also a good family movie. I loved the short lived :( series, so I was so excited to get this movie. Do not watch this if you like movies with really deep, complex story lines. This is just a good movie if you want to kick back and relax.

I was an original fan of the series Hercules but this movie is pretty cheesy, and definitely b or even c level production. I would not watch it again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its was okay
The story line in the movie was okay but they messed around with myths too much and the camera movement was too much
