"Young Lady Chatterley" is a goofy, smarmy, tongue-in-cheek classic of late 1970's soft-core porn. The movie stars a pre-breast-augmentation Harlee McBride (a.k.a. Mrs. Richard Belzer, Detective John Munch on NBC cop shows) as Cynthia Chatterley, the niece of Lady Constance Chatterley (the main character of the D.H. Lawrence book). After Cynthia inherits her late aunt's English estate, she leaves the big city to explore it for herself. Once there, she has sex with just about everything that moves... the chambermaids, a hitchhiker, visitors to her house, all culminating in a large gangbang-type orgy centered around a Victorian costume party.

The movie is tongue-in-cheek throughout. None of the actors (including Peter Ratray as the gardener with whom Cynthia conducts her frequent sexual liaisons) seem to be taking the material seriously, but this adds to the overall ambience of the film. Producer-Director Alan Roberts (who also helmed the lesser 1985 sequel, "Young Lady Chatterley II") keeps the camera away from possible revealing shots, and except for one early sex scene (in a flashback sequence), there is no frontal nudity.

Overall, in the world of great 70's soft-core porn, this ranks as a classic and guilty pleasure. Although tomboyish, Harlee McBride exudes raw sexuality and eroticism, especially in her strongest scene, in which she has graphic intercourse with a hitchhiker while riding in the back of a car. Unlike the 1985 sequel, McBride still has natural breasts and a non surgically-altered body, so we can believe she's really an heiress to a beautiful, sprawling English estate, and just not another porn star. I recommend watching the unrated version, which is available on this DVD.

Undoubtedly, many of you will remember seeing this film and its sequel on American cable TV networks in the late 1980's, which was when I first saw it. If so, this DVD will bring back memories of late-night classic porn on HBO and other networks. The DVD has a nostalgic feel to it, and the presentation is nice. Overall, this is a good, sexy movie for connoisseurs of the genre.

During a recent discussion of erotic movies (not to be confused with Erotica) with a friend, we decided that this movie was one of our favorites and decided to order it. Having seen it only twice myself when it appeared on HBO in the late seventies, it remained in my memory as very erotic though not terribly well acted. The cut available (R rated) from this site is not the same cut I, nor my friend saw when viewed shortly after it's original release and I'm reasonably sure that even in it's raw, formative stages, HBO wasn't airing an X-rated version. If you're looking for the steamy, sexy version you remember, this aint it!

This 1977 softcore extravaganza is one of the finest and most erotic softcore films ever made. Harlee McBride stars as Cynthia Chatterly, the title character of the film who after inheriting an estate decides to have sex with anything and everything that moves. The big shock of the film isn't the sex, it's the fact that the storyline is great for a softcore film, and the acting is as well. McBride and the chambermaids make this worth watching alone, and those who dig the good 'ol days of late night premium cable porn will love this classic.

I made the sad mistake of doing so and I was heartily disappointed. All of the scenes are severely edited which makes this video worthless. The version originally shown on cable all those years ago probably has a rating of NC-17 or NR and that's the one you want.

Young Lady Chatterly has come back to video on D V D ! The DVD is the original uncut x-rated version they used to show on Cinemax and Showtime back in the 1980s. This movie is still hot after 24 years.

I am a little irritated. I wrote a lenghty review of this months ago and it was never posted. Now they want me to do another one. Ok, but this is abbreviated and isn't as informative. This is classic, top quality, 70's softcore. This is probably the best softcore flick of all time. Good plot, nice sets, some flesh, but all tastefully done. Harlee McBride is supersexy in a "real" sort of way. She looks like someone you would know, but she is really cute. Sort "naturally hot." Plus, she is a pretty good actress, too. Harlee is an orphan who in her late 20's realizes she has inherited a huge British estate in the middle of nowhere from a long lost relative. The problem is, a huge amount of taxes are owed on it that she cannot afford. Before selling it, she decides to visit it for the weekend. She, well, let's put it this way, "gets to know" a whole lot of people who work on the estate, mostly men, but a few ladies as well. She falls in love with the place and vows not to sell it. What is she to do? Don't worry, our screen heroine figures out a way to keep her estate (and her gardner). Nicely done!

That guy who plays her rich fiance is hot stuff if you're into older, dark haired men, but it is Miss McBride who shines through. You are rooting for her at the end. It's silly, but fun. The DVD has all the more explicit scenes that apparently the VHS version is missing.

Back in 1981, my parents finally relented and purchased Showtime with our local cable company. Though many of the features were major motion pictures or filmed stage productions, after 11PM the spicier portions of the daily menu were trotted out for late night viewing. "Young Lady Chatterly" is the story of a young woman who inherits an estate from her aunt. There's your plot. She arrives, has sex, walks the grounds, has sex, has a dinner party, has sex; it's quite an exhausting day.

How many nights did I need to go downstairs "to use the bathroom", surreptiously creeping into the television room, turning the volume as low as possible while still hearing the throbbing moans of Cynthia Chatterly, listening for the thunderous plod of my mother's feet on the stairs? MANY

This was a well written soft porn..As we all know porn usually has no plot and is basicly stupid..But this movie has a plot and it has very seductive scenes..Fans of this kind of movie should be pleasantly please..

This one's a keeper - pleasant, scenic, naughty, fun, humorous, and a sweet girl. I like. What better flick for Summer?

This movie has some truly hot scenes, and is more than Just Erotica (has an actual story!)

Dig the playful, enlightened (for the '70s) view about sex, class, and marriage. Admire the empowered, yet very feminine, leading lady, who gets her way, without resorting to hurting or harming men in the process.

Not a bad movie all in all. Harlee Mcbride is breathtaking, though her acting skills leave much to be desired. The sequel has better sex scenes, and the presence of Adam West makes it somewhat humourous.
