This book will make you irresistible to the object of your desire...,
This review is from: Young Liars: Vol. 1 Daydream Believer (Paperback)
Okay, Young Liars probably won't make you irresistible to the object of your desire, but it will shock you, creep you out, make you laugh, and entertain you from the first page to the last. Lapham has crafted a truly original comic book in Young Liars. The narrator, a hapless and hopeless musician named Danny, warns you from the outset: he's a liar. You can never quite tell whether what's on the page and in the panels is actually happening or whether it's all cooked up in Danny's messed-up head, but that uncertainty just makes the story all the more fun. Lapham's art heightens the question of whether you can trust Danny at all: when Danny waxes rhapsodic over his lady love, Sadie, she takes up more and more of the panel and starts doing more and more outrageous things. Young Liars is a rare bird among graphic novels: a perfect synthesis in which the art and words do equal work in conveying the themes of the work.
Plus, there's always the small chance that Young Liars will make you irresistible to the object of your desire...

Jaw-droppingly Excellent,

Without hyperbole, this is the best, most consistently surprising, and unpredictable monthly comic I've ever read. There's literally nothing like it being created in the U.S. comics industry. Getting five issues for 10 dollars is borderline unfair, given the quality of the art and writing. Buy three copies.

This book is an outstandingly absurd, fun, violent and shocking. This will be one of the most original books that has come out since X-Statix.

Best new series in years,
This review is from: Young Liars: Vol. 1 Daydream Believer (Paperback)
This is a book about morally ireprehensible people doing terrible things to one another with nothing but the shadiest of motives in mind. There isn't a single "likable" character in the book, yet you'll find yourself compelled to keep reading to see what happens next. Each issue ratchets up the tension & absurdity to the next level, so much so that even when you think the book has peaked, Lapham finds a way to outdo himself. I'd compare this to the work of Bret Easton Ellis in terms of tone & content, so if that's your thing than swoop this up.
I had picked up the trade based on the enthusiastic recommendation of some other readers & have to say it's probably the smartest purchase I've made in months. Highly recommended.

The next great Vertigo book,
This review is from: Young Liars: Vol. 1 Daydream Believer (Paperback)
It's like a fever dream of mentally disturbed people with terrible ethics and the filthy bloody hijinks they get themselves into.
It really gives you the feeling anything could happen because so far it has. Probably the first book since Preacher to really shock and be funny at the same time. Can't go wrong with 6 issues for $9.99!

YOUNG LIARS: vol. 1 DAYDREAM BELIEVER
I am a believer! I picked up this comic because I "heard" it was great! I've never been into Lapham's work because I was just a kid when STRAY BULLETS came out. Well, I missed the train! After picking up issue one of YOUNG LIARS I was hooked! Now I'm hunting down as much work by David Lapham as I can get my hands on. Needless to say I've torn through all the Young Liars and can't wait to see what happens next! This is by far the coolest on-going series!!! This is a must buy for anyone who lives, breathes, or dies comics!

A better comic than you deserve.,

This review is from: Young Liars: Vol. 1 Daydream Believer (Paperback)
In a medium that often times feels tired and predictable, Young Liars is anything but. Each installment is a challenge and every page an adventure. Young Liars is a story without limits and must be experienced to be believed. Dave Lapham's art is as refined an energetic as it ever was and conveys a rock and roll feel that matches the intensity of the story perfectly.

The most important comic of 2008,
This review is from: Young Liars: Vol. 1 Daydream Believer (Paperback)
Young Liars is the most important comic book of 2008. Yeah I said it! While the standard fare has been rehashing of superhero stories 40+ years long in the tooth (almost everything worth reading by Marvel) or rehashing of staid genre setups (zombies, aliens, mutants), David Lapham has managed to put out the most rare type of work, something that is completely brand new.

Young Liars is another awesome book by David Lapham, who is easily one the the most talented writer/artists working in comics today.
Lapham has a real knack for wrapping the incredible and unbelievable together with characters that remind you of people you know. His take is always fresh, fast moving, and engrossing. He's one of only two or three creators I've read that have never let me down when I buy something solely because they're associated with it!

Fantastic,

This review is from: Young Liars: Vol. 1 Daydream Believer (Paperback)
Cartoonist David Lapham's "Young Liars" is almost as good as his brilliant creator-owned comics series "Stray Bullets." It's a surreal, vertigo-inducing cocktail of sex, ultraviolence and cool rock 'n' roll, all of it grounded by Lapham's strong sense of character. His art remains refreshingly clean and accessible, and it always serves the story well. Whether you're new to comics or a hardcore fan, check this book out.
