About the Artist
About Tab Hunter. Born 1931 in New York City, Arthur Geilen was raised in California by his mother. While working as a stable boy, he was discovered by James Dean's agent, who snatched him up and christened him Tab Hunter. He made his first movie in 1950 and was soon starring in such films as "Damn Yankees," "Battle Cry," and "The Girl He Left Behind," eventually appearing in over 50 movies. Tab had little singing experience, but with a little coaching he became one of the first "teen idols" of rock music. He scored a #1 hit in 1957 with his very first single, "Young Love," on Dot Records. Tab's sudden recording success led his movie studio, Warner Brothers, to launch their now-storied record label. Hunter recorded several albums for Warners, drifting towards both traditional pop (When I Fall in Love, LP-1958) and smooth country (Tab Hunter RFD, LP-1960). Hunter continued working in films and on TV throughout the 60's and 70's, and his career took an upswing in the 1980's when he starred in such campy films as John Waters’ Polyester, Grease 2, and the horse-opera spoof Lust in the Dust. In October 2005, he is publishing his autobiography, Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star, written with Eddie Muller.

Finally...a great Tab Hunter compilation! I can't say enough about this CD but I'll try! All of the hits are here and the label claim of great mastering from original source tapes is completely accurate - the sound quality is stunning. The packaging is first class with a beautiful 20-page full-color booklet crammed full of rare photos and very detailed liner notes. Way to go Eric Records...you've made one Tab Hunter fan very happy! I can now retire my well played 45s!

Tab Hunter was not only a big star in the 50's and 60's in the movies but also a good singer! My personal favorite..Ninety Nine Ways! This is a piece that is not on any other Tab Hunter C.D. collection. I know this is a collection you will enjoy if you liked the musical aspects of Tab!

I was pleasantly surprised with this CD! Since Tab Hunter's autobiography came out it seems the powers that be are striking while the iron is hot. I didn't even know Tab Hunter was a singer who made "Young Love" number one for 6 weeks on the pop hit parade. This CD is full of great tunes like "Red Sails in the Sunset", "Ninety Nine Ways", "When I Fall in Love" and my personal favorite "Candy". Its interesting to hear Tab gain confidence with each cut and see his voice developing so that by the middle of the CD.....he's in full command of his vocal powers and doesn't seem as tense as he seems to sound in the beginning. This CD is great!!!
