5.0 out of 5 stars I can now retire my well played 45s!
Finally...a great Tab Hunter compilation! I can't say enough about this CD but I'll try! All of the hits are here and the label claim of great mastering from original source tapes is completely accurate - the sound quality is stunning. The packaging is first class with a beautiful 20-page full-color booklet crammed full of rare photos and very detailed liner notes. Way to...

2.0 out of 5 stars Tab should have stuck to movies
I had this album years ago on vinyl. Tab was one of my favorite actors, although his acting wasn't Oscar material, he was eye candy on screen as well as off screen. He is still handsome today in his '70's.

But, playing this CD reminded me of someone doing karaoke. Only two songs on the CD are worth listening to more than once. He murders I'M SO LONESOME I...

Tab Hunter was not only a big star in the 50's and 60's in the movies but also a good singer! My personal favorite..Ninety Nine Ways! This is a piece that is not on any other Tab Hunter C.D. collection. I know this is a collection you will enjoy if you liked the musical aspects of Tab!

I was pleasantly surprised with this CD! Since Tab Hunter's autobiography came out it seems the powers that be are striking while the iron is hot. I didn't even know Tab Hunter was a singer who made "Young Love" number one for 6 weeks on the pop hit parade. This CD is full of great tunes like "Red Sails in the Sunset", "Ninety Nine Ways", "When I Fall in Love" and my personal favorite "Candy". Its interesting to hear Tab gain confidence with each cut and see his voice developing so that by the middle of the CD.....he's in full command of his vocal powers and doesn't seem as tense as he seems to sound in the beginning. This CD is great!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric Records Does It Again!, August 7, 2006
This review is from: Young Love: The Best of Tab Hunter (Audio CD)
When I was a teenager working in a record store, one of my jobs was to keep the "oldies" section of singles stocked (yes, they were 45rpm singles, and it was THAT long ago!). That's when I discovered Eric Records, a label that specialized in issuing back-to-back hits. Unlike other labels, the sound quality on Eric's releases was always top notch, and that has continued into the CD era. It was obvious to me that the people who ran this label really cared about the music. That's why I was so happy to learn the label was issuing a greatest hits collection by an artist who was under-represented on CD. Finally, we have a Tab Hunter greatest hits CD, and it is worthy. There are 17 tracks, most in stereo, and all the original recordings. If only every label took as much care as Eric. Great artwork and liner notes, too. A class A+ job all the way around.

Not the greatest voice, I'm sure, but they knew how to produce songs back then to advantage.
"Young Love" (a #1 hit!) and "Red Sails in the Sunset," and "Apple Blossom Time" are such products of their time, and very good.
Gotta give him credit for going the recording route along with the acting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tab should have stuck to movies, March 14, 2010

I had this album years ago on vinyl. Tab was one of my favorite actors, although his acting wasn't Oscar material, he was eye candy on screen as well as off screen. He is still handsome today in his '70's.

But, playing this CD reminded me of someone doing karaoke. Only two songs on the CD are worth listening to more than once. He murders I'M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY. I could cry when I heard him singing it. I know I can do that song better than he did. Of course he was very young when he had his "Young Love" hit. Sonny James re-recorded it and it outsold Tab's version.

In Tab's book he said he and Tony Perkins were lovers over a two year period. I may be wrong but I think they both had their albums about the same time. Tony never had a hit but he had a better voice than Tab. His CD is easy listening. It seems like one tried to imitate the other's singing style. Perkins wins hands down. But, the CD is from the era when Tab was eye candy and had a large fan following. His fan mail kept him in films. He praises his work in the film DAMN YANKEES. Well,I disagree. I walked out of the film when it played. LAFAYETTE ESCADRILLE was my favorite. His scene with Dorothy Malone in BATTLE CRY was sexy and created a large fan following. Both CDs are available again on Amazon. Good photos on the inside of Tab's CD cover, for those who don't know who he was.
