Product Description

***NEW*** - Winner of the 2009 Top Choice and Seal of Excellence awards at Creative Child Magazine!

Join your child on a learning adventure in Numbers and Counting!

MathTutorDVD.com has created the Young Minds series of DVDs to introduce young children to the joys of learning Math at a young age. This DVD in Numbers and Counting teaches young children to count from 1 to 10 by way of engaging classical music, photographs, and video.

Each number is presented with photographs, video, and animation. Numbers are animated to fly-in from off screen and show the child how to count by counting objects that they are naturally interested in. Animals such as frogs, horses, jellyfish, sharks, whales, and more are shown to the viewer along with the animal sounds. Colors are also taught by pointing out the color of objects on screen.

Here is a sampling of what your child will learn:
- Variety of animals along with animal sounds
- Fruits and vegetables along with their colors
- Machines that move such as trucks, airplanes, etc, along with the sounds that they make.
- Everyday objects such as crayons, toys, etc.

The central idea of this video is to teach children numbers and counting while at the same time teaching them the names of animals, machines, and other objects along with their associated sounds and colors. This integrated learning approach keeps children interested, promotes continued learning, and stimulates their young minds. Guaranteed!

The entire DVD is set to rousing classical music pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Brahms, Vivaldi, Pachelbel, & More!

Bonus Features:
- Repeat Play
- Picture Puzzles
- Connect the Dots
- Name the Animal

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD! August 6, 2009
We received Math Tutor's Young Minds Numbers and Counting DVD just last week. Already, I have seen tremendous improvement in my 3-year-old's math skills. Before receiving this DVD, he knew his colors and shapes and could say the names of the numbers (though not sequentially). Now, he is walking around the house counting things (and doing it well) and telling us other things that he has observed on the DVD (which he affectionately calls "my school moomie").

In much the same style as a Baby Einstein DVD, Math Tutor uses classical music (Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, etc.) as the background for their DVD's. The DVD is narrated by a child, making it appealing to young children. The pictures are of things that are interesting to little ones (animals, food, thing that go, etc.) And, while teaching numbers, the DVD also introduces other important concepts such as the sounds animals and things make and colors.

I would highly recommend the Math Tutor DVD series, and will definitely be recommending Young Minds Numbers and Counting to anyone with preschoolers (baby through age 4).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD! August 7, 2009
Great DVD! My toddler loves the combination of photos, colors, music and numbers. The moving images and numbers keep our son's attention. Although the DVD is so captivating that you could just let your child watch it alone, we sit together as it plays and count along with our child. I highly recommend this DVD.

For the record, I have purchased several of the Math Tutor DVDs. They have all been very helpful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good counting DVD January 23, 2010
Verified Purchase
The only reason I give this 3 stars and not five is that i think I like watching this beatifuly produced counting DVD better than my year and 1/2 old. It holds her attention for a little while, however the child narrorators voice gets a bit monotone and lulls my daughter to sleep.

ERNIE count with me 1-2-3 is way more entertaining for her and she has only watched it three times and is already counting to twenty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has helped my 18-month old a great deal September 13, 2009
Verified Purchase
I bought Meet the Numbers and this DVD at the same time. Meet the Numbers tends to numb my mind with the repetition. The Numbers and Counting DVD is fantastic! The cinematography is excellent, the music is excellent, and also the length of the DVD is longer than half an hour. I love the combination of counting, every day objects and their sounds, colors, and animals. As my daughter is learning about numbers and animals in separate books the DVD brings them to life in a way she remembers and easy for us to point out. She is still young so I hope she'll watch this DVD for a few years yet. Sometimes it's so engrossing I can't help but watch myself. I have watched it multiple times and still have not gotten bored! I am looking forward to the other DVD's in the series as she gets older.

Below added on September 18th, 2010

A friend of mine borrowed the CD for use with their son. He just turned 3 a few months ago. He had some trouble recognizing numbers past five. He loves the CD and sits through the whole thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Home Education September 8, 2009
The beginning of the school year has went very well. I have discovered Lauren is a Math whiz. It is all fun and games to her and she loves it! I have been on the lookout for educational things to use with this years schooling that will benefit her and increase her desire to learn.

MathTutorDVD.com has some awesome tools that kids love. The DVD we were sent to review is called "Young Minds - Numbers and Counting". The girls love it mainly because of the very vivid images. Bright colorful photographs of things that hold their interest, such as bugs, animals and brightly colored fruits. The numbers are reinforced by being displayed in written number form, visually - with a demonstration of how many of the object shown belong with the number and verbally spoken as well. They also demonstrate the sounds that the animals displayed make. Colors are also taught by pointing out the color of objects displayed.

One thing that usually gets under my skin about television for children is the loud obnoxious music. I can't stand it. This DVD does not use that loud obnoxious nonsense. They have set the whole thing to awesome classical music. Classical music that engages the minds of my girls. Music from Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and others!

Both of my younger girls enjoy watching this DVD. I let them watch it in the mornings after breakfast in my bed and listen to them counting with the DVD. It is a good review of skills for Lauren(5) and a great introduction for Emma(3).

I noticed while browsing the site that they have DVDs aimed at all levels! They have Algebra and Physics! I think I need the Algebra one for myself to be able to keep up with my 6th grader this year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very elegant, my favorite August 25, 2009
In a marketplace crowded with growing numbers of educational DVDs for young children, Young Minds - Numbers and Counting has become my favourite counting DVD ever. My children don't necessarily agree with me - they prefer flashier, faster videos - but the educational value from this disc, the ease of use, and the incredible variety of learning applications this simple DVD can be used in have won me over.

Directed by Jason Gibson of the extensive Math Tutor DVD Series, Gibson takes charge behind the scenes but spends no face time in front of the camera as in his other straight-forward math instruction videos for older students. Instead a child's crisp, clear voice counts through number sets from 1 - 10 and offers commentary about bright, engaging photographs. These photographs are stationary apart from zooming and scrolling effects and transitions from one to the next. Drawing from a wide range of photographs known to appeal to children, animals, vehicles, foods, everyday objects, and scenes from nature are reoccurring selections.

As the child counts the objects on the screen numbers appear next to them. For example, in a photo of eight puppies the child counts 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. as the numbers appear next to each puppy. Each number is represented by over ten photographs and counting sequences - I love this degree of repetition, much more fun than flashcards and certain to cement number recognition. My six-year-old does feel that there are too many images for each number, but the DVD has really helped her nail the numbers 7, 8, and 9 through the intense repetition. Parents have the option of choosing repeat play, play through once, or selecting any of the chapters from 1 to 10 for targeted practice.
