5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tribute to a Great Man!, March 22, 2011
This review is from: Young Montrose (Coronet Books) (Paperback)
Aside from Scott and Stevenson, Nigel Tranter is the best historical novel writer that Scotland ever produced. You could easily read all his novels as historical chronicles but with a personal and heart felt flair. In each of his books, you get to feel what the historical character felt and it makes you think of history in a completely different way. This first part of his two part set of novels on Montrose, the beloved James Graham, is no exception. It is a lovely, passionate look into the life of this amazing man and the comrades he stood with as well as the enemies he stood against all for the right of his king, Charles I. Having finished the first part of his story, I cannot wait to read the second. These scream for an epic film! I for one would love to see Montrose's life as portrayed by Nigel Tranter on the big screen!

3.0 out of 5 stars Other Books, September 3, 2007
This review is from: Young Montrose (Hardcover)
James Graham was the Marquis of Montrose. At first, his king really didn't want to have anything to do with him. However, he proves himself to be a really excellent military leader, and can't be ignored because of that fact. With less men and a lack of resources he still manages to win battles, and is still treated shabbily, in general.
