Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 7 Up Miner's guide for pregnant teenagers focuses on the primary need of infants and toddlers, that of loving affection. Miner believes that the young parents may not have received enough affection themselves and may not realize that it is the key to successful parenting. She gives practical hints on how to involve the father in child-rearing if he is around. There's a nice balance between hard-fact statistics and stories of young mothers, told in their own words. The black-and-white photos are average. Miner, who was herself a teen mother, openly advocates adoption but gives an unprejudiced explanation of abortion. Planned Parenthood is highly recommended no matter which option is chosen. The Ewys' Teen Pregnancy (Pruett, 1984) is easier to read, but Miner's book could be read to good effect by parents and counselors as well as by teens. While she does not address issues such as marriage and earning money, her book is an adequate supplement to the many books on pregnant teens, such as the appealing Deep Blue Funk and Other Stories: Portraits of Teenage Parents (University of Chicago Pr, 1983) by Frank. Anne Osborn, Riverside Public Library, Calif.
