Book Description

Dressage is now the fastest growing equestrian sport, especially among the young. These riders are not only discovering the challenge of the sport, but also that the riding and training principles of dressage can help them become more successful in all other equestrian activities. Despite all the youthful interest, however, books on dressage are rarely directed at the young; generally, they are much too complicated and technical. Jane Kidd--international dressage rider, judge, trainer, and journalist--understands this very well. In writing A Young Person's Guide to Dressage, she has looked at the topic from the viewpoint of her many pupils--the novices, the newcomers to dressage, as well as more experienced competitors. The result is an ideal guide not only for the young rider, but for all who retain a youthful, exuberant approach.

This review is from: A Young Person's Guide to Dressage (Hardcover)
This book is outstanding! I am 38 but new, although I have to ridden since I was 7, to dressage. I have MANY books on my shelf on the subject from world class riders/instructors but this is by far the best at simplifying dressage in an easy to understand and non-intimidating manner. Excellent book on the complete subject of dressage....covering the most complete history and origin of dressage, individual movements from beginner to advanced, as well as goal setting, equipment, and the aspect of mental imaging. It explains in detail the why's and how's and also why and how horses react to proper and improper application of the aids, as well as how to properly correct improper or evasive behavior. Great book not only for kids but for adults too!
