Book Description

It's 1984 and the future looks bright for college student Joyce Bacyrus, rah-rah Reaganite and card-carrying Young Republican. She dreams of a high-powered Wall Street Yuppie career until her computer geek friend Hacker boinks it all up by opening a portal to another world in his dorm bathroom and dragging Joyce and their friends into it on a search for Stephanie, his missing lab partner and hopeful future squeeze. When Hacker loses the floppy disk that anchors the open portal, they must find it along with Stephanie, a task now on deadline as she's slated to marry the world's most disgusting prince. Threatening to boink things up further are a feminazi witch, a race of Conan-style barbarians (but only half as smart), incredibly hot naked undines and the prince's sidekick, heavy-metal troubadour and evil magician Malsorcier. While pondering the deeper questions of friendship, loyalty and the suspiciously modern elements in Chassadril, Joyce also wonders, Am I gonna miss my Macroeconomics exam?

5.0 out of 5 stars What a long, strange trip it is! April 11, 2012
Format:Paperback
If you are looking for a witty, quirky, tongue-in-cheek read, then you've come to the right place. Ms. Chardenet pushes the envelope with her intelligent, insightful writing style and colorful characters. As a young adult of the 1980s, I found much to relate to (almost frighteningly so!)

It doesn't matter which side of the political fence you are on, you'll enjoy this trip down memory lane - with a few curiosities thrown in to keep you on your toes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy meets Shrek! January 19, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If I had to write a pitch for this novel I would say that it's "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy meets Shrek". It would certainly make for an adventure-filled movie with a cast of smartass college kids, each armed with their own unique skills and knowledge, and yet with a lot to learn about life, the universe and everything. And no, the answer is not 42, but if you like a well-told tale filled with portals into other worlds, fantasy mixed with 1980s panache, and a sprinkle of politics, then this is for you.

The author possesses a unique sense of humour that is refreshing and very witty, and her style endears the heroes of the story to the reader and gives each of them a quirky personality. The characters do speak to the reader and they are multi-dimensional. In short, they feel real, even though this is a humorous fantasy.

Great read! So when's the movie coming out?

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy with Morality January 16, 2012
Format:Paperback
Young Republican, Yuppie Princess is a fantasy novel which takes place in the 1980s and has time travel, mythical creatures, action and a spoiled, feminist and narcissistic Republican. Although I do not normally read fantasy novels, this one sucked me in immediately, so much so I read it instead of working. It has a creative story about time travel, friendship and letting go of your ego and stepping out of your comfort zone to help yourself and your friends. The protagonist, Joyce Bacyrus, learns the value of her true power when her pampered bubble is busted and she finally realizes she needs to fight for what is right because not everything in life can be handed to her on a silver plate. Young Republican, Yuppie Princess is a delightful and addictive novel - it can easily be made into a movie. Ms. Chardenet wrote such an engaging and entertaining novel that I didn't want to let go of these characters or story. Hopefully we will be graced by more novels from this ingenious writer.
