Prior to Dro's Best Thang Smokin', he had worked with various DJs to produce several mixtapes. The albums contain many exclusive new songs and freestyles. Though many of the songs never made it on the air, the mixtapes featured previews of "Shoulder Lean" and "Rubberband Banks". Also included are many origional songs featuring artists such as T.I., Alfamega, Mike Jones, and Big Kuntry King.
