5.0 out of 5 stars Dissection Kit, April 1, 2010

I got this kit for school and it was a lot of fun! The worm and frog was the best, and there are step by step instructions on how to observe the outside and inside of the animals.

The only thing is that there is only one tray and you are supposed to discard it after you are done, do we just dissected in two days. Plus it does not come with pins which you need, especially for the worm, and gloves which you need or else it gets very messy. Also, the scissors it came with are very dull, I had to use scissors meant to cut hair.

But over all, I am very glad I got this!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Specimens. Not so good tools., May 27, 2011

This is the first time we have used Carolina Biological and the specimens were terrific. The guides were great supplementary guides but should be used with a more substantial textbook for a more comprehensive experience. I only gave this kit 3 stars because the accompanying tools were sub-standard at best. The scissors were difficult for my 6th grader to use and frequently tore the skin of the specimens. If you were planning to use this kit in one sitting you may be able to get away with the one paper tray included but I wanted to stretch this over a 4 week period. If I decide to use Carolina in the future I'll purchase my own scissors and dissection trays.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great kit, but don't forget..., February 2, 2010

This kit is great! My 9-year olds can easily follow the photo-directions and there are also instructions for an adult to assist. This kit isn't complete though; you'll need dissection pins to hold open the flaps, some latex or nylon gloves so your hands don't get yucky, and I would strongly suggest some cuticle scissors or similar as the blunt-tipped scissors included were less than precise and would not cut through the skin. Other than that, it's fabulous!
