Dissection Kit,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Young Scientist's Animal Dissection Kit
I got this kit for school and it was a lot of fun! The worm and frog was the best, and there are step by step instructions on how to observe the outside and inside of the animals.
The only thing is that there is only one tray and you are supposed to discard it after you are done, do we just dissected in two days. Plus it does not come with pins which you need, especially for the worm, and gloves which you need or else it gets very messy. Also, the scissors it came with are very dull, I had to use scissors meant to cut hair. But over all, I am very glad I got this!

This is the first time we have used Carolina Biological and the specimens were terrific. The guides were great supplementary guides but should be used with a more substantial textbook for a more comprehensive experience. I only gave this kit 3 stars because the accompanying tools were sub-standard at best. The scissors were difficult for my 6th grader to use and frequently tore the skin of the specimens. If you were planning to use this kit in one sitting you may be able to get away with the one paper tray included but I wanted to stretch this over a 4 week period. If I decide to use Carolina in the future I'll purchase my own scissors and dissection trays.

This kit is great! My 9-year olds can easily follow the photo-directions and there are also instructions for an adult to assist. This kit isn't complete though; you'll need dissection pins to hold open the flaps, some latex or nylon gloves so your hands don't get yucky, and I would strongly suggest some cuticle scissors or similar as the blunt-tipped scissors included were less than precise and would not cut through the skin. Other than that, it's fabulous!

This is a great set of specimens for dissection. There is a good assortment with a frog, a worm, a crawfish and a cricket. I picked up one of these for homeschool so my children could have the opportunity to dissect and learn. The specimens are fine. They are large enough and easy enough to dissect. This is really what you might purchase this kit for - you get a section of animals for dissection. The equipment that comes with this kit is OK. It's not great, it's not super sturdy, it's not the best out there. The ruler is an extremely thin, cheap ruler. The tweezers are plastic. The scissors are really not great at cutting. You can use it and it might be helpful but it's not the best equipment for dissection. The education materials that come with this kit are not very helpful. You get a teacher's direction and a kid's direction. The teachers directions are very simple as are the children's papers. You can easily find better directions with color pictures online. Once again. The only reason you would purchase this is because you are looking for a set of animals to dissect. The equipment is usable but it is not the best quality. Enjoy.

My Grandson could not believe his eyes, this was just what he wanted. I never though I would find a kit like this. Kit is very well packed and all items in their own jars and sealed tight. The only thing missing from the kit is gloves. I am now his favorite Grandma!!!!!

All these animals were DEAD!
Plus, there was no blood to speak of and they tasted like salty plastic, especially the frog. |
