Early Lena but not complete-yet contains unreleased tracks!, May 16, 2010
L'Art Vocal - Volume 11: Lena Horne contains all of her early known recordings from 1936 to 1941 and is available for digital download. The Young Star includes some of her earliest recordings, but mostly I purchased select songs from this album to fill in the gap from other albums that I've purchased, Ain it the Truth covers the MGM film appearances she made, and the Complete Black & White Recordings covers all the recordings she made for that label in 1946 and this contains some of the tracks she recorded in between the albums. The last three tracks on this album were recorded in 1944 and that is about as much that is known about them since they were previously unreleased and relatively obscure. This is a great album for new or casual fans, but for completists they may want to pick up the other albums I've mentioned and just download missing tracks from this album. For fans that want all of her early recordings on one collection there was a cd released in 2002 titled The Complete RCA-Victor Black & White Masters but I'm not sure if its still in print and its not available for digital download.
