A reference recording, June 20, 2000
This review is from: The Young Visionary: Bach Recital, New York, 1948 (Audio CD)
This recording include works from different musical sets composed for different occasions, the Wilhelem Freidman book, the WTC 1&2 and more at different levels of complexity. In her book "introduction to the performance of bach" (1960 Oxford University Press, unfortunalety no longer available) Tureck gives guidelines on how to think contrapuntally, listen to fugue in c-sharp minor as example. Each part\voice is heard totally independent of the other voices, it sounds as if each voice was recorded separately and all voices were later mixed.
The recording of the preludes and fuges surpass the later 1953 recording which was recently re-issued. All in all, the selection is varied containing abstract music and dances , the performance is superb. We can survive the mono live recording.
