Editorial Reviews

With their first three albums praised by fans and critics alike Audrey Horne positioned themselves in the premier league of Rock! The fourth album, Youngblood, follows this tradition and presents the Norwegian Hard Rock quartet full of fresh energy and a truthful love of playing. The great production provides the finishing touches and presents the listener with a warm sound that differs tremendously from the soulless plastic productions of this day and age. Youngblood is an excellent and sweeping Hard Rock album full of soul. For fans of Faith No More, Soundgarden, A Perfect Circle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simpler might be better... July 9, 2013

This album rocks, plain and simple. Audrey Horne wear the influences on thier sleeve, for all to hear. But all that means is that if you hear something that sounds like another band, it sounds really, really good. And thats not a knock on the AH sound. They still have thier own, distinct sound. The vocals, the melodies, the guitar changes... its all Audrey Horne to the bone. But this album has some simpler riffs than thier previous albums. Some more basic, rock n roll riffs and choruses that sound more anthemic and AMAZING loud. Be warned: the songs will stick in your head long after you shut off the stereo. Youngblood rocks. Start to finish. Best if played loud. Or are you not listening? ;)

On my review of their last album (2010's self-titled) I described this band as "Imagine members of Alice in Chains and Tool getting together, getting the keyboard player from Faith No More and then getting Ozzy to sing....and you've got Norway's Audrey Horne." And "They just seem to keep getting better and better and I can't WAIT for their next release!!"

Well, they came through, this is an OUTSTANDING album, every bit as good as the last one, maybe even better (time will tell). While there's not a bad song in the bunch, after a few listens the standouts are: Redemption Blues, Straight into Your Grave, Cards with the Devil, The Open Sea and This Ends Here.

I'll also repeat my "I HIGHLY recommend this band, and this CD in particular, to anyone who likes music of this genre, or just good hard rock period. Check them out, you WON'T be disappointed." comment from that review.

In fact there's really only one thing wrong with this CD and it's just a small gripe: the production. The overall sound quality of this CD is a step back from their last CD, but mostly in the low end. The bass and bass drum in particular sound muddy, washed out and "hollow" in comparison with 2010's CD.

But that's only really noticable when these songs are played back-to-back with songs from that last album, and in no degrades the overall excellence of the songs.

In a just world this band would be one of the biggest metal/hard rock bands in the country and a lot of our current "popular" metal/hard rock bands would be opening FOR them. So help the few of us in the States who are actually listening to this band spread the word! Who knows, if they sell a few more CDs (or downloads) they might even tour over here!!
